Djimi's back - Flo also playing reserves tonight

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Djimi Traore returns from injury and plays for Liverpool Reserves against Newcastle United at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground at 7pm on Monday night.
Traore has only featured once in pre-season for Liverpool which was 45 minutes in the friendly win over Bayer Leverkusen in Lustenau. He has been injured since then with a thigh strain. He has returned ahead of schedule and plays left back for the reserves.

Florent Sinama-Pongolle starts and Salif Diao also makes an appearance in central midfield.

New Spanish centre half Miki Roque, 17, makes his Liverpool debut.

Traialist Ramon Calliste lines up in attack for Liverpool. Calliste is a Welsh Under-21 international and was released by Manchester United at the end of last season.

Time to dust down the old opinions. I like Traore and think he may one day make a centre-half. I know many don't agree but there you go. I'm not saying he'll become Franz Beckenbaer (sp?) or anything, just that he'll become a decent, stopper centre-half. Not for a season or two though so I'd still buy one.

I agree with you there bigmick, and I think we can use him as cover for CB from time to time but we still need to buy a new CB[s]

I've to say that i have been quite impressed with Djimi last season, even though he scored the goal of the century. He is a decent player which is continously improving under Rafa.

Would like to see Flo-Po back on the right wing.

Djimi improved a lot last season, but I just can't see him being good enough for us in the long term if we seriously want to challenge for the league.

He's alright as a LB, but Warnock is more reliable.  As for playing him at centre-back, he just hasn't got the positional awareness, and despite his height he's pretty poor in the air imo.

Can't understand Rafa offering him a new deal to be honest, that's a strange one.

Personally Traore is a better defender than Warnock however Warnock is better at going forward.

Traore not good enough for me, you need to be able to defend, attack and pass to be a good left back, Warnock has all those attributes IMO. Traore certainly can't attack or pass comfortably.

Warnock isn't good enough either but imo Traore edges out Warnock.
