Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Leonmc0708 » Fri Aug 27, 2004 12:01 pm

Everton have confirmed they have agreed a deal for Liverpool defender Djimi Traore.

The French defender is travelling to Goodison Park on Friday to discuss terms and undergo a medical

Everton have agreed a £1.5 million deal for the versatile defender and, as revealed exclusively by skysports.com last week, Traore is set to seal a move across Stanley Park before the close of the transfer window.

Toffees boss David Moyes is keen to bolster his defence and with funds available he has moved to lure Traore from local rivals Liverpool.

Moyes hopes to tie up a deal for Traore in the next 24 hours.

"We've agreed a fee with Liverpool of £1.5 million to bring Djimi Traore to the club," Moyes told the club's official website.

"At the moment we're just waiting for clearance that everything's done and hopefully he'll have a medical later."

Traore has expressed his desire to move to Everton as he is determined to be playing regularly and the player's agent Monte-Carlo based Willie McKay revealed a deal was close to being sealed.

"A deal has been agreed between both clubs," McKay told skysports.com.

"Djimi is going to meet Everton officials today to hold talks.

"All that needs to be done is for personal terms to be agreed and a medical.

"Djimi is excited at the prospect of joining Everton at playing in his preferred position of centre back and staying in Liverpool where he is settled is a big bonus."

Confirmed by lfc.tv:

Liverpool have confirmed they have received an offer of £1.5 million from Everton for French defender Djimi Traore.
Everton manager David Moyes has been an admirer of Traore for some time and wants the defender to strengthen his squad before Tuesday's transfer deadline.

Traore was signed by Gerard Houllier from French side Laval for £550,000 in 1999 and has played 75 games for Liverpool scoring one goal.

After establishing himself as a capable centre half during the 2002/03 season when he deputised for the injured Stephane Henchoz, Traore fell out of favour with Gerard Houllier in 2003/04 and spent most of the time in the reserve team.

If Traore completes the move across Stanley Park he will be the first player to leave Liverpool for Everton since Gary Ablett in 1992. David Burrows also had a spell with Everton but didn't move directly from Anfield as he had a spell in between at West Ham.

What if Traore is good? Houllier never could make any player shine.

Rumors that Everton are now goin to run out to the "Benny Hill" tune rather than Z Cars in tribute to Djimi's style of play are as yet unconfirmed. :D

Who knows ? Traore might prove us all wrong and go on to becomr a colossal figure at the heart of Everton's defence.

With Djimi's ability to fall over the ball and loose possesion he made Biscan look like Fabio Cannavarro ! :p
