Disappointing

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

We played very well against Arsenal and I thought that our confidence would be boosted and that we might change something on the road.

But no that did not happen. How a p!ss poor Aston Villa got something out of this game I do not know. We failed to pick up the very vital three points we needed. It's all good that Kewell scored but the game should had been finished in the first half. We played so much better but at the end were disappointing but not being able to get what we needed.

I just hope we can beat Everton because if we don't finish the game off we will end up with the same result we did today. Pathetic

i cant understand why the team just can not play well away?? could only spot a few fighters in the current squad(SG, JC, Hamann) so maybe that explains why the rest seem to pull back to their shell when it matters most :(

Consistency-
This our problem. We haven't been consistent at all this season. I can not simply believe that a side who outplayed last year's league champions couldn't finish off some pathetic ****** club that Villa are. We better beat Everton if we plan on finishing in the top four at the end of the season.

Yes the ref made a horrible call but that shouldn't be an execuse to why couldn't get three points today.

A week ago if somebody had offered us four points from Arsenal at home and Villa away, as well as beating Tottenham away with a reserve team then we would have grabbed the offer. Remember Bolton, Middlesboro etc. Poor performances. This is better, without the help of a proper striker. Come on A.B. you're cleverer than this. Chin up mate!

Villa are not just some sh*t team A.B. They are very tough to break down at home and they have a solid squad.

As JBG said, its not that bad a result, its certainly better than being beat as we could been going by the commenty. Obviously we want to win games like this but remember we havent exactly got a fully fit squad too, any points at all are welcome and valuable until our team is back firing on all cylinders.

I said in AB's poll on "Will we beat Villa" that I thought we'd get a draw.

There was always going to be a major raising of expectations after the Arsenal game but we have to put things into perspective. Villa are a reasonable side who have an excellent home record and we are missing al of our first choice forwards.

We cannot win every game and given our excellent home record, there's always a chance that we'll drop points away from home.

I'm always a bit disapointed when we don't win but a draw away to Villa is no disgrace, and given our injuries, a good result.

What makes it so difficult to accept is the fact that we were a better side. In all honesty Villa didn't deserve to get a point out of this game.

Maybe I expected to much from the lads but we played too good to only get a point.

Positives
-Harry Kewell::
We've have been critisizing him for his poor performances but I got to give him credit where credit is due. He scored today after 30+ games of being unable to put the ball into the back of the net and I think that today's goal will change him for the rest of the reason or atleast I hope so. I think he has lacked confidence and I hope that he has gotten some of it today.

-Milan Baros::
Baros has recovered from his injury and is expected to play for Olympiakos. He may have the habbit of not looking up but he works his ****** off and causes chaos for the opposition's back four. Today had he played he would had scored and having him back will surely make an impact on us.

Also it is important to see that we are infact creating chances without any experienced strikers. One point is better than none but today was no execuse for not getting all three points. Had we done that we would had been fourth in the Premiership.

We got important games comming up. Home to Olympiakos, and we have two Premiership games next week. Away at Everton and Home to Portsmouth. We need to collect maximum points from those fixtures if we have any intentions of finishing in the top four and qualifying for the Champions League.

we were the better side for the majority of the match and should have pcked up 3 points, it was 2 points dropped for me,
But Villa have a good home record and a point is no the end of the world, the Everton game though is a must win if we are going to kepp in touch with the leaders.

Nice to see Harry Kewelll score and put in a much improved performance, keep it up Harry!

In broader picture an away draw against Villla isnt a bad result
But when your watching the match and we had so much domination and villa were so poor in first half it certainly does feel like a lost opportunity and two points lost
Hopefully it will provide a spur for a good result against the Greeks

The result is not ideal I must agree. But remembered last season we even got dominated by many of those so-called weaker teams, while this season we are bossing them around more in games.

Once we have better strikers to put away the goals, we will be very hard to beat. Let us see how we do with the 4-5-1 formation with Baros back and Kewell's (maybe) confidence back.

I am eager to see Baros in action once again. He is expected to be fit by the time we play Olympiakos next week, if not he will then surely be fit to play against Everton

Lets look at the positives.

1)we dominated the whole game with not our strongest team.
2)get screwed by the ref again. That was not a free-kick.
3)We should have had a penalty (how many times this has happened).
4)If mellor got the chance traore had (in the last minute), we probably would have won.
5)Hyppia looks good. I suggest to strip him off his captaincy for good (when gerrard gets injured/suspended).   :p
6)We played well. We obviously cannot play at the same tempo we play against arsenal every week else players will get burnt out.
7)Rafa has 1 eye on the the champions league.
8)If Baros played, we would have 3 goal lead at half-time.
9)Kewell is starting to get better. But what happened to his pace & 1st touch ?
10)Alonso & Gerrard have a telepathy understanding.
