Kuyt is an attacking player who should be scoring and creating goals.  He is not v good at doing either but it seems cos he runs around all day like a headless chicken thats good enough.

Given the warmth with which Rafa hugged Kuyt around the neck at the end of the Bolton game, he apparently agrees' with you.

perhaps rafa is psyching himself up to kill off our headless chicken for thanksgiving supper

No doubt Rafa likes Kuyt. Why people say "Rafa will get rid of the mediocre players like kuyt" in the summer I have no idea.  Kuyt could well be here next year if Rafa is still here as he clearly is a big fan.

As long as Rafa is manager we will have Kuyt playing week in week out, all hail the rafalution with its dependence on sh1t players.
Can you guys imagine how p1ssed off Crouch must be when Torres is subbed, actually a good move by Rafa, only to be replaced by Riise?? If I was him I would be so fecking annoyed at Rafa for not even giving me a chance whilst a complete waste of space striker like Kuyt is held in so much favour.

well at least the waste of space striker does more work then the beanpole , who has one advantage his height and he can't head and score to save his life , i've said it time and time again , crouch and kuyt are both not lfc material but kuyt is a better player then crouch , hell crouch needed 17 games to get his first goal , he missed 5 chances against barnsley and then scored from a offside goal . those 5 chances i'm sure at least one would be converted by kuyt , chelsea whr crouch missed 3 good chances , 2 headers and a shot . Inter another game , people like u need to wake up and see that crouch isn't really an asset to the team , he doesn't add anything to the team , he's just missing as many or more shots then kuyt who tracks back and helps the defence which crouch can't do .

well agreed... on top of that kuyt is a better partner for torres IMO because he's just more versatile than crouch... when crouch plays he takes up the centre forward area and couldn't even find his strike partner (torres) properly or quickly enough... torres has been left to scraps when crouch is there in the centre missing chance after chance... at least kuyt can play as a right-sided or left sided attacker while supplying some decent crosses (not top quality but IMO even better than pennant's probably because as a forward he knows where another forward might be lurking) for this reason I would sell crouch first before kuyt if we have to... having said that crouch does offer something to unsettle a very tight defense when kuyt and torres is getting nowhere just because of his height and presence... all in all if there's another better forward in the market and we could get him sell them both... oh and not to mention voronin... he's worse than both kuyt and crouch...

For the amount of money that LFC had spent on Kuyt, his return is so poor, whether in central attacking roll, or in a wider roll, you will only get his work rate which is high, but no good end product, and the same applies to Kewell, Voronin, Leto, and others average players in present squad, really they all must go.

Isn't he doing more wide than most of our wingers? (sad to say) Maybe if he can put in crosses and score occaisionally he'll be a solution there, it's not like our wide players are top of the assists charts

Dirk Kuyt has a game to goal ratio of 3.65, so every three and a half games, he grabs himself a goal. Compare that to Torres who's ratio is less than 1.5 it doesn't make good reading but compared to Voronin's who's is above 5 games to score one goal, maybe we should give Kuyt a bit more credit.

Anyway, what I've always said (even when he played in Holland) Kuyt is not a world class striker and he would be at his best behind Torres alongside of Gerard. He would be a pain in the a@s of the other side, make a lot of assists and will get his goal once in a while (more than a regular forward midfield player).

Four months ago, I still give Kuyt his credit for his work rate but that's all we saw from him. Last couple of games we've seen him contribute a bit more going forward, so he should recieve praise.

Which ever way you look at it , he is simply not good enough. Yes he works hard but what else? Dosent score enough, dosent create enough. His attitude and work rate is great and I wish some other players were the same, but sadly thats there only things i wish they had of his. No other team who wanna win the league would keep him, why should we?

Last season he was our top scorer in the league. He works hard because others don't do the work so he has to run into positions our more lazy players aren't prepared to track back into. That's the problem with Kuyt, he has to run into positions others don't want to that he ends up running into positions where he can't score from.

I'm not a fan of Kuyt and I'd sell him for any price we can get for him, but I can see the positives in him, as I do with all players.

GBJH, Yes he was our top scorer in the league mate  but he scored 12 or 14 i think it was, which still is not good enough. No one can argue with " He was settling in" Because this season he's been simply appauling.

I'm not saying 12 goals is acceptable, I don't rate Kuyt, but I can see why some may rate him.

Since then has he gone on to become a legend at Feyenoord, and captain the side, and also gone on to score in a Champions League final. Not bad for a bloke who could have become a fisherman.

His first season at Liverpool saw him score 14 goals, and his tireless attitude let to comments by The Mirror, “The Dutch striker has the look of a cult hero in the making”, and, “propelling himself towards iconic status,” by The People. Kuyt’s wife Gertrude continued to stay in employment even after marrying him, working in an old-people’s home, until their first daughter was born. Both husband and wife run charities that help under-privileged children in Holland, and third-world countries. I’d like to see a footballer who does more charity work than Dirk Kuyt and his missus. Indeed, he acknowledges the fans as well. Applauding every corner of the ground after almost every match.

So what has changed for the 27 year-old? Why is it that Liverpool fans, who claim to know what they are on about, want him out of the team, and sold? Is 110% effort, and genuine benediction not good enough anymore? Or is it that Kuyt just isn’t good enough for Liverpool? Well that’s just bull. What was it we used to call Emlyn Hughes? Crazyhorse wasn’t it, because of his tremendous work-rate? Kuyt last season scored 14 goals. This season, so far, he has 9. Who is to say that he won’t go on and score 5 more goals between now, and the end of the season? If he does, will it still be a bad season, for a player who does whatever is asked of him, to the utmost?

For me, his performance against Inter Milan in the first leg at Anfield, showed exactly why Rafa Benitez has had faith in him, and why we should all get off his back. Setting aside the guys work horse attitude for a moment, it was plain to see what he brings to the team. Kuyt played on the right hand side of midfield that day. Jermaine Pennant is who I consider to be our best right-midfielder, but the reason why Kuyt was chosen ahead of him was his dynamic style of play. He can come inside off the wing, play upfront with Torres, play behind Torres, or play alongside Mascherano in the centre of midfield, whilst Gerrard goes haring into Inter Milan’s defence. Pennant offers a lot, but not what Rafa wanted against Milan. He turned up on both wings, and indeed it was coming in off the left that brought him his reward.

Many people who are familiar with Rafa’s style of play, and understand it to an extent will see that Kuyt’s willingness to run at defences, enables him to drag defenders out of line. It is all part and parcel of Rafa developing tactics to suit the opposition’s weaknesses. It may be that if you discount Kuyt’s contributions, Torres and Gerrard would have less goals than they do now.

Yes the guy’s finishing has not been up to scratch this season, but the team’s play, is geared up for Torres to get all the chances, and the rest of the team to simply create them. To that effect, Kuyt’s efforst should not have gone unnoticed. I’ve always thought that Liverpool fans understood football than most. They are passionate, yet don’t let that passion get in the way of analysing a match, or a particular individual’s performance.

It does seem that Kuyt’s critics, be it because they are soaking what the Liverpool boo-boys are saying, or because of their own naivety, are being way too short-sighted.

Good read, something I have been saying all season. He does alot more than score and others benefit from him playing in the team (especially Gerrard). I still would like a creative  second striker in the team, but not at the expense of kuyt.

Crouch adds another option up front. He gives us height and someone to target. Defenders rush onto him, leaving space for Gerrard, Torres and/or Babel to roam free.

Liverpool's 70's line up...John Toshack. A lot stronger than Crouch but not as gifted with the ball at his feet. Yet we dominanted Europe with Tosh up front. Crouch offers us a lot and is highly underrated by many on here.

I must admit that Kuyt has looked much better of late in this new 4-2-3-1 formation.  Today, during his brief cameo, he put in some better crosses than Pennant and Arbeloa managed all game (not to mention Riise and Benayoun).  He always be a grafter will Dirk but I think this is a system where he knows his role and where the goal-scoring burden can largely fall to Torres, Gerrard and Babel, taking the pressure off of him.  I've been critical of the lad all season but, fair play to him, he's ran his socks off for the cause even during his lowest ebb and he's now seeing his hard work pay off.

I agree mostly (for once  ) with it Bob, but not this bit. I think Kuyt has been playing well of late, but I don't see how you can say the burden of scoring goals lies with Babel (left winger) but not Kuyt (right winger).

Gerrard and Torres yes, but if the goal-scoring burden is going to lie with Babel playing as a winger surely it has to lie with Kuyt as well. That's one of your problems with Pennant, he doesn't score enough from right wing, yet your excusing Kuyt for the same reason
