I don't think he is indispensable.

If more players had shown the same heart, desire, passion , fight and willingness to run through brick walls for our club then we might well be in a better position than we are now .

There is a post in this thread from RBG and i will find it - it sums up kuyt pretty well .

Then we have the second point Kuyts not a Striker ,No !  well he's suprised the hell out of me because without him Liverpool wouldnt be up Uniteds so-called Imperious @rse .
The one greatest attribute he brings to this team is his commitment ,and believe it or not his speed of thought, Kuyt is rarely extolled for his ingenuity, and  watching him on that field ,Ive no reservations the fella's heart is Scouse ....
I know Kuyt will always have his dissenters, but he epitomizes the spirit that Liverpool Football Club exists for  ,and while he is at this club ,I will be safe in the comfort that its not just  Scousers who would run through the proverbial brick wall for this great club of ours ........

Here is a great post from RBG someone who realises the true value of Kuyt to our team .

I wouldn't be looking to sell him, but to say his contribution is 'indispensable' is a tad far-fetched :D . He's a good player when he's in-form, but that's been too occasional in his time with us and he seems to be overly reliant on the team performing well in order to make a telling contribution. (If we're not playing well he's not one to start pulling the strings) That's because his general possession play has never been eye-catching (not in a positive sense at least), far from it in all honesty. I wouldn't be too critical on the manager for selecting him when there really haven't been many other viable options (granted, Benayoun occasionally) given our injury problems.

Ok mate will change the word to valuable member of the squad as he isnt at the level of gerrard ,torres, pepe but is along with the guys like agger ,carra, aurelio, johnson, yossi masher as a member of our strongest first 11 .

It's funny how whenever Liverpool aren't playing well it is somehow ALWAYS Kuyt's fault, well his and Lucas' and Babel if they can somehow fit him into the equation.

He's up there with Gerrard, Torres and Benayoun as likeliest source of a goal, ok his form dips but whose doesn't?!? I often read comments on here in disbelief, the classic is those who'd rather have some airy fairy right winger who takes on and dances past the full-back, but does FA with the ball thereafter, than Kuyt who contributes more end product than most supposedly better RMs come wingers. Has it come to it that our lack of creativity always produces a finger pointing at Kuyt? If he is the ONLY attacking player 'not creative enough' then wtf are the rest doing?
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

Despite his goal today he didnt have a very good game.

He is always the one who gets onto the end of deflections though so I would prefer him upfront than Ngog.

All credit to him though he works tirelessly to get at the end of the deflections and crosses... Agreed on him needing to be played upfront if Torres isnt around... despite me thinking that Ngog has done very well when played, Kuyt seems to be the more logical pick of the 2 especially given the fact that he hasnt been influencing games from his RW spot, and that Rafa will always play him regardless... could be time for us to see a different look to our attacking game.. Benny came on and we immediately started looking more dangerous down the flanks, same with Riera... Some added width and someone with a little bit of creativity to know the right pass to pick out from wider out when we get the ball...

I thought he was good today, in general the team was very poor but almost every attack created by us, as rare as they were, tended to come from something created by Kuyt.

Well, now he has earned another 3 months of garbage showings because his heart is so red... :no

He is so poor with the ball... but I can see why many likes him.
But he is so damn average it's unbelivable. But now he has scored against the blue***** so he is one step closer to sainthood.

He will never be good enough for some but lucky enough they are in the minority and dont have anything to do with picking the team . Thats left to the people who know what they are doing .

Well said mate, Kuyt may not be the sharpest blade in the knife drawer but if the rest of the team could match his application and commitment we'd be streets ahead of where we are now.

All this heart and desire is doing my head in.
I want a quality footballer with skill and tricks going past defender, not a headless chicken running(slowly) around kissing the badge and saying the right things in the media at the right time.

How did he actually play out of interest? If it wasn't that great, was the goal significant enough in the context of the game to render his performance overall as worthy?

DISCLAIMER: I'm just asking, I haven't seen the match.
