I'm actually going to play a game for the next match and count the tmes Kuyt passes the ball backwards when theres an option of knocking it on.

God knows it'll be a damn sight more entertaining than watching the game.

How long more are we gonna stick with Kuyt when he is struggling for form ?

Kuyt made me change my mind about him last season.  There has never been any doupt how hard he works but last year his performances where really good.  This year he has been truly awful.  But let's remember... he is being played out of position

Even by his own standards, Dirk was truly awful tonight. He hasn't even got the good sense of Lucas, who when playing badly just completely disappears so you don't notice him. Dirk just carries on running round and you can't stop him.  Like a puppy who's treads in his own sh!te and then sprints around and around on the new carpet, it's annoying to watch but you kind of feel sorry for him as well.

Completely agree, I just don’t understand it.

As much as I hate Babel for his attitude and saying what he said in the press, he is not wrong when he says:

“His philosophy is simple – try your hardest in training and then your chance will come. But sometimes I wonder how long I can sustain it.

“Many players can play lots of bad matches and still keep their credits – I can't.

It really must be demoralising to know that Kuyt can have 4 / 5 / 6 really poor games in a row, and still get picked and play 90 minutes. Players like Babel never get that opportunity, and yes I know his (babel's) work rate stinks, but maybe thats because he knows that it wont change anything. Yes he should have said what he said to the press, and he is a grade A c0ck... but his statement above is still true......

Im sick of thsi guy. Whenever he gets into a position where he can make something happen instead of taking his man on and running ahead he looks for a sideways pass and ends up up the move. He is a tryer but by god we need someone with some technical ability on that wing to make things happen.

I agree, he had loads of opportunities to take a shot last night but choked time after time after time, incredible to think that this guy was bought as a striker. He did a pretty good job at RM last season but this year he sucks .

Yep he just makes me cry this guy he should go become a pro runner because that is all he got to his game.I think most his goals are just because of a % chance even a Broken clock is right twice a day.

I dont understand why Benayoun cant be a regular starter ahead of him on the right wing...

Kuyt is having a shocking season.. we can all see it. I just have no idea why Rafa likes to play him so much

If you cast your mind back...one of shareholders during moores period question's benitez of buying Kuyt for 10 million. He found it was too excessive. Well that shareholder was forced to step down....and benitez has been trying to accomodate kuyt whenever he can.

Actually, yes, and the facts prove this. Dirk Kuyt is, for all intents and purposes, undroppable. And what have Liverpool gained this season as a result of Rafa Benitez's favouritism? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

I'm sorry to belabour this point but favouritism is on the things that I despise the most in football. Players should be in the team on merit; if their performance level drops significantly, it should be time to give someone else a chance.

Kuyt has a history of barren spells for Liverpool, and despite going through yet another one of those periods right now (1112 minutes and counting), Benitez seemingly refuses to entertain the possibility of dropping the player.

I have nothing against Kuyt - he has been effective at times for Liverpool, and last season - bar a couple of inevitable barren periods - he contributed some important goals and assists. It is Benitez picks the team, and he is the one who constantly gives the Dutchman pitch-time, irrespective of his form.

The situation is exacerbated by the fact that there is no one really challenging Kuyt for his position. Ryan Babel will never be given a run of games on the right (or anywhere for that matter!); Yossi Benayoun rarely plays on the right; Gerrard's days of playing on the right are seemingly over; Glen Johnson could play there but Benitez will probably never take that option.

It's a sad state of affairs when 6 seasons into a manager's reign the only consistent option on the the right side of midfield is a converted striker.

How many more hours of football are going to be wasted before Benitez drops Kuyt and gives someone else a chance?

In my view, Kuyt should be given a rest for the next 10 games. Use him as a sub/cover for Torres and give Babel an unbroken run of games on the right; this means letting him start and finish at least 10 games in a row.

Consider this: Babel has never started and finished more than two games in a row at Liverpool. Two games! That is unacceptable and clearly illustrates Benitez's lack of faith in the player.

After spending 11.5m of the club's money on Babel, doesn't Benitez have a duty to the club and the fans to at least see if he can deliver in a run of games?! If Babel is never given the chance, we'll never know.

If after 10 games he still can't deliver the goods, then at least we'll know that Babel is never going to cut it at Liverpool.

Whatever happens, one thing is for sure: Liverpool cannot go on next season with Dirk Kuyt as the first-choice right midfielder.
