The only rotation i want to see when it comes to Dirk Kuyt is should he make the reserves or a sunday league side, because the fella simplely isn't good enough. Fair enough the lad runs around like a headless chicken, but if that's the case then lets spend 10 million on Robbie bleedin Savage and bung him up front for Liverpool Football Club. I'm not laying all blame on Kuyt because I can safely say that at least 10 players in our current 1st team squad are not good enough for a lesser side in the championship, never mind one the best teams in Europe.

Do you ever say anything positive ffs?

How can we tell if he is good enough when he hasn't been given a run as an out and out striker ?

I'd love to see what Arsenal would have done with Kuyt. Wenger was an admirer but decided the price tag was too high (as had Rafa the previous Season).

Wenger tends to be able to spot talent as we have seen. He was so interested in Kuyt he personally flew over (using a plane despite what the media would have you believe thesedays) to watch him playing for Feyenoord.

oh well he must be great then, i must have the missed the part where he looks like a quality footballer     

mick we bought him and he is gash. if we bought him as an out and out striker and we are not playing him there then thats something else we can criticise rafa for because the position he has him in is neither good for us or good for the player

What Is The Point Of Dirk Kuyt?
Now, before hoards of Liverpool fans get themselves in a lather over this, I should explain myself. I am not saying that Kuyt is a rubbish footballer. There are plenty of rubbish footballers in the Premier League. Some of them are even team-mates of Kuyt. My point is that I don't think that he's a footballer at all. Let's examine the evidence.

He undeniably runs around a hell of a lot (normally unusually slowly given all the energy expended) and he seems to have a hole in the top of his head out of which sweat continuously pours, a la Carlos Puyol. He also jumps up and down a lot and sometimes when he does so the ball hits his head and goes in various directions. He chases the ball with admirable eagerness, but then again if you played ten footballers and a very giddy golden retriever on a football team the dog would also chase the ball with eagerness.

It's when the ball is at or near Kuyt's feet that you begin to suspect that the Trades Descriptions people should be called in and that, rather than being a footballer, he is instead an example of just how far you can get on sheer enthusiasm.

Seeing him on the same pitch as technically-proficient players like Fabregas, Hleb and Rosicky was both hilarious and slightly worrying. I can only assume that representatives from the nation that brought us Total Football are working tirelessly to revoke his citizenship. If anyone can refute this without using the expression 'terrific work rate' or quoting statistics from the Mateja-Kezman-is-better-than-Pele Memorial League, I will take my hat off to them.

Completely agree.  Despite running for 90 minutes non-stop, he produces little of note, very much like a headless chicken.

Yeah, we don't like people who work hard. We want uninterested, lazy ba$tards who have all the natural talent in Bulgaria, but just can't apply it.

He was poor the other day admittedly, but I hate the arguement that "if we wanted someone to work hard we should have just signed a fan/road digger/whatever" - Boll#cks. I'll never understand the way his work level is held against him. If it's so easy to work hard then why haven't more of the players been doing it recently, especially in the games leading up to the Arsenal match?

I don't like the fact that he's not played upfront. He'd score more if he was. But, if we played him upfront I doubt very much whether Torres would still play as far forward and given that he's the better of the two, we should be playing to Torres' strengths more than Kuyt's.

He was poor the other day admittedly, but I hate the arguement that "if we wanted someone to work hard we should have just signed a fan/road digger/whatever" - Boll#cks. I'll never understand the way his work level is held against him. If it's so easy to work hard then why haven't more of the players been doing it recently, especially in the games leading up to the Arsenal match?

Its not that his work rate is held against him, its that work rate is all he seems to offer thats upsetting. I was delighted when he came, I was overjoyed after his first cameo appearance against West ham(?) So I take no pleasure in knocking him, but even a blind man should be able to see that he is offering nothing more than hard work at the moment. His touch is poor, his passing less than insightfull, his goal threat virtually none existant.Before anyone starts quoting the 5 goals he has managed this season... 2
penalties, 2 goals against a poor Toulouse side that were already dead and buried, and one header against Porto.
He has a powerful shot from what I can remember, but its no use if hes so slow and so far back that he never gets the chance to use it. He's relatively poor in the air as he always stands behind the defender rather than trying to get infront, but maybe thats because he has no pace.

Peewee, I agree with you. I just don't hink Dirk has been able to demonstrate what he's fully capable of at Liverpool because he's been played in a completely different role to the one he had at Feyenoord.

I don't think his instructions from Rafa help him either. Being put on the wing doesn't suit him and I really think his overall goals tally - which many seem to judge him by - suffers because he is so willing to drop deep for the good of the team. I recall an interview where he said someone (can't remember who) might allow him to play higher up the pitch. I took that to mean that Rafa was asking him to drop deep to fill the "second striker" role.

I mean for me, Kuyt needs to shoot more. In the clips I saw of him in Holland, he was always shooting from outside the box, and following in on the keeper when others shot at goal. We haven't seen enough of that and surely that's down to the manager.

10 million for a dutch Robbie Savage thats what we got with Kuyt. Didn't want him when we were 1st going after him, give him the benifit of the doubt but he's never won me round and now he's simply not putting in the performances worthy of a Liverpool Football Club player. I don't see why a young lad like Linfield can't be given a go because he couldn't do any worse than Kuyt and Voronin are at the moment.
