French outfit Lens have completed the permanent capture of Alou Diarra from Liverpool.
The midfielder spent a productive season on loan at Lens last term and the club had made it one of their summer priorities to sign Diarra permanently.
Lens thought they had missed out recently, as it had been claimed that Reds chief Rafa Benitez had urged the midfielder to return to Liverpool and fight for his place on Merseyside.
Diarra took time out to mull over his options, but finally pledged his future to Lens on Thursday by signing a four-year contract.
The deal is worth €3 million to Liverpool after Lens exercised their option to buy.
Diarra moved to Liverpool in 2002 from Bayern Munich, but never made an appearance for The Reds.
