I think denfinsivley we have been ok this season however i do think that we need a new centre half i know people have been sayin josemi was the week link but to me i think its Hyypia, THe rst of them are doin well TRoare and Carra have been an inspiration finnan has also done well wen he has been in the side josimi as also doin a an ok job but i think even though hyypia is playin alrigght he is pushin 30 we need a new young centre pack either michal dawson or Phil Jagielka ]

i fully agree. or wait a minute? dawson? jagielka? one player playing for a relegation bound 1 div side even struggling to get into that poor team, and another over hyped not-yet-proven player. let benitez handle the affairs, he seems to be doing all right. but at least i agree that hyypia is finished. when benitez arrived and implemented attacking pass and move football, hyypia's deep defending days, just clearing the box days were over. he has done an ok job during the last few years, but now as we are on the way up we need better players.

When Josemi, learns to tighten up on his man, this will stop Carra and Hypia being pulled out of position to cover lose players on the right hand side. Making the centre of defence more solid. The return of Steve G. will also tighten up the mid-field, putting less pressure on the defence from lost balls.
although Steve G. has lost a few howlers at times.

Nothing wrong with the defence when Riise, Hyypia, Carragher and Finnan played against Charlton. It looked solid as a rock. Josemi imo isn't good enough and Traore ISN'T a centre half. That causes problems.

Riise and Finnan, for various reasons are not good enough.

Why?

Riise is good defensively and equally good going forward and physically he's superb.

He's also starting to influence games and can score goals.

His passing and technique are decent, he's quick, he's powerful, he's a good tackler, wins headers, good crosses, willing to get beyond the strikers, willing to shoot and likes to link up with other players.

Finnan is an excellent passer and technically he's superb, his crossing with both feet is very good. He's good defensively in a positional sense and reads the game well he's also half decent in the air and a good tackler. He doesn't waste possession stupidly and also offers intelligence and movement to the side. His link up play is also to a very good standard.

Redrider, my opinion is, if you think Riise isn't good enough, you need to watch more games.

Simple as that.

In my perspective someone better than Hyypia is a must as Hyypia's main weakness imo is his lack of pace.

i think we're ok - players wise - with the defence. i don't think sammy's too old or unskilled - him and jc have been solid recently. most of the problem is josemi getting out of pos or ball watching, though i do believe he can be a good player. with riise, traore, hyppia, carragher, finnan and josemi  - and don't forget henchoz is still here - we have enough (potential) quality.
