Defence - Any backups?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby PepeMomo » Fri Nov 04, 2005 3:40 pm

We are all anticipating for a new CB in January... but what about the other positions?

Josemi isn't good enough to handle right back when Finnan's out... Warnock or Traore don't give us much confidence on the left back spot either..

and what about if Carra got hurt?

I think I january we need to bring in more than a CB for our defence..

But CB is the most important position.
Warnock gives a solid show at LB, but I agree the RB position is dodgy after Finnan. Raven would get my shout.

I think at left back there is plenty of options but agree on the right, Josemi is shocking and tbh what i have seen so far of young Raven hasnt filled me with any confidence at all.
Same with Whitbread, you may say give them time and i dont mind doing that, but at this moment they dont look like they will improve enough to be considered first team material.
Warnock is a different matter, he looked poor against Palace but i think has been steadily improving and has a bright future at the club.

Raven hasn't looked too bad to me. I think given the chance, with a full team around him, and he will do okay.
Whitbread looked far too shaky against Palace to be given a chance in the premiership.
Warnock has impressed me though, every game he plays. You get nothing but 110% from him every time he pulls on a red top. It's just a shame that after a few good games he has a howler that sees him back on the sidelines again.

I think the left and right backs are fine, you have to remember Risse is a left back as well, so we are hardly dry for options, all of which are slightly dodgy, but its not like we are screwed if one gets hurt. Josemi despite what 98% of everyone says I think could be a good right back, I am always happy with Finnan, he is pretty gritty and can play good balls into the box, I hope we keep him for the long haul. Center back, well we have Zak Whitbread to replace either carra or sami, or if need be, Traore did alright as a centerback, but we shouldn't have to settle for a left back, we most def need a new centerback because things are kind of nervy in the middle of the park.

Can't imagine how we will perform without carra...i know it is a team game and all, but carra is absolutely vital for this team......

Caragher was awesome today .. that last ditch tackle against the Baros, brilliant. But to be fair the whole back 5 played well, led the line well and Hypia was grt too.

As someone who knows little about tactics.. are we still playing zonal defense?

i think carra is our MoM tonight. our defense look solid so far, the budget for january should be prioritised on CB, since carra needs backup and sami's starting to fade away with his age
