Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby ShanklyReturns » Sun Apr 06, 2008 12:36 am

I think next season, rather than the league cup, the youngsters like Plessis should be given more chances in the premier league as this will be the key to unlocking the holy grail of winning it. The Benayouns, The Pennants and The Babels of this world simply do not have the hunger. The youngsters are fresh and offer new ideas and innovation . Watch out for Krisztián Németh, Craig Lindfield, Emiliano Insua, Stephen Darby next year!

I take my hat off to the reserve lads who played so well.
I thought it would have been too great a risk but Rafa knew his men and they played up to his expectations.
It certainly looks as though the reserves are clawing back the lost years from when our Reserve team WAS the second best team in europe.

Well done lads.

He played well, he played simple football. But to be a better player , he needs to play more .... Rafa needs to loan him out to other team... to make him a better player ...

It's pronounced 'Plessi' as I understand, in fact I'm certain of it.

As has been mentioned, the lad fitted in well, which is the most important observation (he didn't look like a fish out of water) He looked technically sound, had a crisp touch, decent passer of the ball, timed his tackles well.

A very encouraging debut in a game many thought we'd be lambs to the slaughter. I think the best way to phase a young player in is in the odd game here or there, and not amongst a host of other youngsters (except possibly in the league cup), unless they're all exceptionally talented. Young players making the step up need to be in a team that has a decent level of experience so they know what it's like to step up a level, otherwise it could be a bit of a false dawn.

He's momo-esque in style, but technically quite a bit better, and looks very comfortable in possession - which is a fundamental area we need to improve upon if we're going to challenge for the league title in future.

It would appear that Rafa considers him highly given the stature of the game, it would also bear out the theory that 'if they're good enough they'll get a game'. Rafa's now prepared to wait until the right player comes along, with a sufficient level of quality, before he decides to play them. That's an approach I'd sooner see than the GBJH endorsed 'give the youngsters a game just to see if they're good enough' i.e. throw a few in the mix, without carefilly considering whether they're good enough and have sufficent quality.

Yeah sounds about right doesnt it?

I agree, I thought he looked very good and had a lot of confidence, one shot he had during the match was from a good distance and wasnt too far off target either, good to see the people in the background are doing good work with the youngsters to give them this confidence.

Plessis looked very good indeed and good to see Rafa have confidence in giving him a shot in such a big game.

From what I have seen of Nemeth and the way he has been going in the reserves I ask the question, could he have done any worse than Voronin did in the game?

Assuming we're not going full tilt after Arsenal in third, hopefully there will be opportunity to give some of the younger players a game in the league. Fulham and brum away perhaps, Plessis will probably start against Blackburn if Mascherano is still suspended for that game and maybe even Man City at home. Those four games are not gimmes, but it may not be too big a risk given his game yesterday and if we do progress in the CL then resting players is likely to happen a bit more.

I was at Aresnal game, and I was very impressed with Plessis, even all my Arsenal fans whom I was with, and the think I was most impress with His coolness on the ball, he does not panic, his passing is very good, his vision is good too, he has reminded me of D. Hammann. A top prospect for the LFC if he keep improving, providing he is given his chance more often, but under Benitez, I am not sure, as Benitez, will go and buy or acquire on free players more likes Lato, Voronin, etc!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and litter the LFC squad with more below bar players.
