Had serious reservations about his appointment from the beginning ,never felt the need for someone other than the manager to orchestrate
transfers ...Surely the fucking Rick Parry experience when Rafa was manager left us scorched enough ?

it's a cultural thing it seems. the director of football model works all over europe and is generally seen as the norm. over here though it has never worked down the years with a few exceptions further down the league. it's perceived as undermining the manager to too great an extent.

I think nearly all Liverpool fans knew Comolli was mistake, but your looking
at owners wet behind the ears football wise, who no doubt spent
crazy money on some jumped up football adviser in the city who convinced
them you need a director of football.

He may have got away with it had he brought in some decent players,
but he has been such a complete and utter distaster any fool could have
seen through him, and Fenway are learning now.

I doubt we will be bringing in an another.

surprised when i heard this.
i thought nothing would happen till at least the summer when fsg evaluated our season.im not sure how much truth is in the family thing but its good to know that we have owners who can be ruthless in dealing with failure.
kenny has said he collaborated with comoli on all the signings and that might be true but we all know how loyal he is to the club and the players and would never single out anyone to blame.

it`s not nice to see anyone lose their job but he probably earned in a month what most people do in a year so he`s not exactly skint.
i must say though that i never liked the idea of a DoF and i like this moneyball philosophy even less, when that secret footballer said in his recent article that moneyball wasnt just about buying players it was about a style of play which was based around a formula which stated if a team crossed the ball 30 times, won 40 headers and won the ball back in the opposition third 12 times etc etc etc it was then that i really started to have concerns, that`s the type of footballing philosophy the likes of charles hughes and allardyce believe in, football by numbers, footy is too fluid a game to turn into a science.
lets not forget the owners are where the moneyball theory comes from, they brought comoli in because he was big into stats.
to be fair to comoli he did a good job moving players on and he probably would have been a good man to have around in the background but installing him in a position as powerful as DoF was a mistake imo.
good luck to him in whatever he does in the future

that is exactly the type of statement kenny would make even if he had no say in the signings, he`s that type of fella, i think kenny was probably consulted but the signings were deffo made with moneyball in mind so he probably just went with the flow, he was probably just happy to be back and didnt want to rock the boat.
it`s not good for your long term employment prospects to say `this moneyball malarky is all my @r$e` when the owners and your boss are massive believers in it, especially when you havent even got your job on a full time basis.
i think the owners had to find out for themselves that these theory`s dont work in footy

Are you sure about that? Kenny makes it ever so clear he picked the players to buy, not Commoli (see below). Kenny knew who he wanted to sign & got commolli to clinch deals for his respective targets. I dont think Kenny is the type of guy who would fabricate a true story.

V.surprised to see Commolli goes. They said he left by mutual consent, I'd say sacked to be blunt and straight to the point. If the reason for the sacking was the awful signings, then Kenny will leave by 'mutual consent' as well in the summer. Because the director of footie is someone who does the donkey work of getting the players that the manager wants. All will point to Kenny when this season is over. Unless Kenny wins the FA Cup and win all the remaining 6 premier league games (this is like getting bitten by a shark in the desert), Kenny will also be asked to resign in the summer. So FSG does mean business and they will definitely do something radical in the summer.

It means the owners are very unhappy with what has happened this season. It could be that Kenny is the next to go or that he will be moved to a different role in the club.
