look at this from a diffrent view point

hodson is a good organiser, hes proved that....inter milan apart he hasnt been at any club which could win trophies anyway

in our current climate we cant attract anyone top class cause we have little to spend and still big fan expectations

so i guess at the mo hodson is an ok choice.

The poster who said earlier that if Hodgson comes to Liverpool we would end up with Bobby Zamora and Zoltan Gera makes a good point. Not in the sense that we would LITERALLY end up with those players (he doesn't mean that surely), but in the sense that both players are excellent exapmles of Hodgson not only buying sensibly, but then improving players out of all recognition by shrewd man management. He sells quite well too, with the sale of the talented but fragile Jimmy Bullard being an excellent example. Danny Murphy said somewhere that Hodgson is the best manager he's ever worked with, and he's been around a bit.

I'm optimistic we can improve on seventh if Hodgson comes in, and surely that is how we should judge him rather than saying that he won't win the title, none of our managers have for a long time after all. I think the only Fulham player he'll go after is Hangalund the big centre half. Once again he is an excellent example of a shrewd buy who has improved.

He wouldn't necessarily be my very first choice, but he's a good manager and exactly the type which we need in my opinion. By that, I mean he tends to play players in their proper positions, doesn't over rotate, doesn't over complicate and is a shrewd tactician.

Yeah im sure he will sell the likes of Torres and Gerrard well. Can't wait to replace them with bargain basement players in the hope Woy manages to make them play out of their skin.

We should have gone for Pellegrini or some other continental manager. The only reason we went for Hodgsen is because he is an old bugger who wants a last stab at the big time and he isn't going to moan about having all to spend either.

And if he is so good at getting the best out of his players why hasn't he ever won anything? Look at the clubs he has managed ffs, bolloc.s clubs in Sweden and Switzeland. People say Inter but his win record was less than 50% overall. He is a journeyman manager who has just hit the jackpot thanks to our clueless owners.

I think he took over Inter when they were in crisis though, before steering them into a European place. Also, he won five successive titles in Sweden. I know it's not the best league, but you can only win it at the end of the day. Also, the stat which someone put up earlier about him getting Switzerland to 4th in the World rankings is pretty impressive. He wouldn't have been my very first choice, but I'd have over that Pelligrini bloke any day.

When you sack a manager you employ somebody who is different to him. There seems little or no point to me in sacking Rafa Benitez and employing a carbon copy. That would have been a disasterous move in my opinion.

Not when most of your top players would have not even come here had it been for that original manager. You need to think about how the new appointment will affect them as well.

Do you mean that the top players that we've got wouldn't have come if Benitez wasn't the manager? I don't agree mate. We obviously have a very different opinion on how prestigious Liverpool Football Club still is, I think most people would give their right arms to play for us regardless of who is the manager. There were plenty of murmerings about players wanting away BECAUSE of the manager in any case, so it's a bit rich to make out now that they only came because of him, and they'll all want to leave now he's gone. Some players will leave because we finished 7th last season fair enough, but that's the price you pay for finishing outside the top slots. It's only the same as players deserting relegated clubs to move back into the Premiership, or leaving teams who got beat in the play offs to play for someone who's up there. If you underachieve you lose your best players, it's always been that way.

Im pretty sure I have quotes somewhere from Pepe and Fernando saying that Rafa was the maindecider in bringing them to Liverpool. I don't doubt that they had huge respect for Liverpool given it's past success. Can't remember when the Pepe interview was where he said that but I think the Torres one was in 442 a few months ago. Might have been last year actually. Mascherano is another one. The man is a mercenary but he is a top player and he talks about Rafa like he was his father.

Maybe this season we will see just who we can attract. Our financial position will surely play a big factor too and it's not exactly a secret what state we are in. And what are our future prospects with us being in so much debt? Bring in players who do well so we can sell them for profit to pay of debt and start it all again?

The problem lies with the board but until thats sorted we will just have to struggle on.

But you were saying a couple of hours ago that we won't have any money, so therefor surely we will have difficulty attracting players whoever is the manager. I've no doubt that all the players who signed for us while Rafa Benitez was the manager thought he was OK when they signed, otherwise they wouldn't have signed in the first place. They do get well paid though, and I wouldn't be underestimating how much that is a factor too. Even me who thinks everyone would love to play for Liverpool must accept that if you don't pay they won't play. There's also the point that we might be better off if we hadn't "attracted" some of our more recent purchases. Attracting duff buys is no good for anyone.

They get well paid yeah but not as much as City, Spurs, Utd or Chelsea. Fact is though the game is littered with mercenaries. There is no getting away from that. Any successfull team in the modern era will be forking out loads in wages.

But this is all speculation mate, we can discuss this day and night. Im just holding out for a lastminute takeover.
