As for this £9 million bid from Pompey i'm confident we can get more for the lad. I know he only has a year on his contract and that we have (once again) screwed up on the contract front (he should have been signed up to a new deal LAST summer) but there will be a few teams out there watching the situation closely. I'm sure Newcastle, Villa, Everton and Blackburn could all be possible destinations for Crouch. Redknapp thinks anymore than 9mill is silly money? Redknapp thinks anymore than 9mill is silly money? Well hold on a minute mate, you sold the guy for 7 million 3 years ago. Since that time he's become an England regular, scored goals in the Champions League, scored goals and been successful for a top side and he's only 2 million better? I reckon we can and should get another 1-2 mill for the lad.

He's an England SQUAD regular, not starting he isn't. As for scoring goals, well for England it was against predominantly sh1 te sides and for Liverpool ditto.

Massive impact - not! Most of his CL goals have come against Maccabi Haifa, PSV, Kaunas, Besiktas, Galatasaray and Bordeaux. Some not the worst sides but not the best either. And his record against the top sides - Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal - still is pretty ordinary at 6 goals in 26 appearances, half of those his hat-trick against Arsenal when their defence was asleep.

We should take £9m, there's no way pompey will get dragged into a Barny situation and we could end up with no buyers for a player who, after the Barnsley game, played just 9 games out of 19 and just 400 mins - including three full games in reserves as the rest were rested and one start of importance to the club (vs Arsenal in CL). £2m profit would be good business for an unwanted player who has sometimes looked good enough but not often

Those stats can be very misleading, unless of course you give us every team player in every single match. I.e was it a second string side, was he paired with Voronin upfront. Did Gerrard play or not, did Carra play or not, etc.

Pull up those stats if to be fair to him, you always throw stats in your posts and they can be so often misleading, to your view. Take for example you slate Crouch, pull up some misleading stats to back your opinion up. Where I simply watch the game itself, watch the palyer himself, afterall football is played on grass not paper.

Pompey's £9m Crouch bid rejected 

Liverpool have rejected a bid for striker Peter Crouch from Portsmouth, BBC Radio Merseyside understands.

Neither club are prepared to comment on the reports but the offer is believed to have been in the region of £9m.

The 27-year-old played under Pompey boss Harry Redknapp at Southampton before he moved to Merseyside for £7m in the summer of 2005.

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has hinted he would consider offers for Crouch in the region of £15m.

"I'd love to bring Crouchie back here," Redknapp told Portsmouth News.

"We are trying to do deals to bring in players and chief executive Peter Storrie is working on trying to get things done.

"But the fee seems a bit too high, and at the end of the day it comes down to the price."

The England international has scored 40 goals in 135 appearances for the Anfield side but has struggled to hold down a regular first-team place last season.

Crouch was relegated behind Fernando Torres, who scored 33 goals for the Reds after signing from Atletico Madrid last summer.

But Crouch, who has a year left on his current deal with the Anfield club, still managed to net 11 goals as he was mainly used as a substitute by Benitez.

Agreed on the defence of Crouch. And nice to see Rafa isn't ready to get just ANY amount of money for an international player.

Crouch has done his service for his club, and, for that matter it seems that should we sell him we'd get a profit for him, which is much more than players like Cisse or Morientes have done at this club.

Considering Parry's still at the club, I'm surprised he didn't accept less than £9m.

For waht it's worth, I think we'll let him go for £10m. Makes a change for us to hold other clubs to ransom over players and not the other way round.

FWIW, I'd love to see Crouch sign an extended contract. I'd like to see Crouch partner Torres in a 4-4-2 formation which would reap rewards with the purchase of  decent right and left wingers. The 4-3-3 formation seemed to be born out of the fact that we are lacking in width.

Not every post has to be based on stats mate. They're boring as hell a lot of the time and i'm afraid they won't alter my high OPINION of the player.

Did I say regular first 11 for England?

Just pointing out that when we bought him for £7 million he had just had a decent season for Saints and that was pretty much it. I don't recall him scoring goals to knock Utd out of the FA Cup? I don't recall him scoring hatricks against Arsenal? I don't recall him playing games and scoring goals at international level?

It's only the contract issue that has his price down at 9 million. I think we can get a bit more money for the player.

This post is 72.7% accurate, plus or minus 5%.  This raises Sabre's average post accuracy to 61.2% which marks a 0.82% increase from last month.  He still has a long way to go to get back to the level he was performing at before his disastrous Torres predictions but his credibility coefficient once again lies comfortably within acceptable parameters.

Rafa should have taken the 9 , for a player with only a year left on his contract 9 million is a good deal , remember the owen case , where we only got 8 and crouch is not even fit to lace owen's boots in terms of skill , I don't know what is rafa playing at
