In my book, an own goal is only so if the deliberate intervention of a defender or keeper has made the ball go in when it would otherwise have missed. Crouch's shot was clearly on target before it struck the defender so no problem there (and in any case, the defender didn't deliberately change the trajectory of the ball) and would obviously have gone in the goal unaided by the keeper.
That the goalkeeper was laughably incompetent is not in question. Just because he flapped at it though doesn't make it an own goal. Incompetence does not make an own goal, if it did then Diego Forlorn scored two less than he thinks he did for Manure because Dudek gifted him at least two against us.
Accidental and inadvertant deflections do not make own-goals. Nor do incompetent goalkeepers. If the ball had looped up and was going over the bar before the keeper fumbled it, then it's an own goal. As it is, it's Crouchino's.
