remember a couple of seasons back when not qualifying for the champions league was unthinkable? well now relegation is unthinkable in exactly the same way.

its hard to believe that we would get relegated, but we will if our form doesn't pick up dramatically and if we don't find a way to start getting the basics of football right and winning some games. i've never in my life called for the head of a manager but by god i'm tempted right now...

If we continue to play as we are we will definately go down. In our last few league matches we've conceded is it 3 3 2 and 2, and we aren't scoring freely either. Teams who do that go down.


I don't think we will continue to do that, but unless we are going to be happy with a mid table finish we need to start winning soon, and to do so we must play much much better than we are.

The decline from last year has been small but significant in that last year we would have drawn some of the games we've lost already this year. The league is so difficult now that there's little difference between the teams in the lower half. If this was March now and we had 20-25 points I'd say it would be 50/50 either way but we probably would get to 40 points or more.

If we continue to play like this we deserve to go down. But with the amount of quality in our squad i cant see us doing it even with woy.

With only 8 games played it is way too early to be making predictions about relegation - there are still 30 games to go and 2 consecutive wins would see us rise up the table.
However, the table does not lie and at the moment (after 8 games ) we are probably where we deserve to be as the performances have been dire.
If we are at the bottom of the table after boxing day then I would start worrying.
We are in a transitional phase, but that should not be an excuse for the results so far. There should be enough quality on the pitch for us to climb out of the relegation positions with ease. Reina, Gerrard, Cole and Torres are all class players and if they can perform to levels they have previously played at then we should be ok.
The fact that we are talking about avoiding relegation rather than fighting for a top 4 place is a sad reflection of how things have gone tits up on the pitch.

Well if the Gerrard-Torres combination doesn't start to work & score goals, I would start to worry. But it is early days still & lots to play for. Look at the positive side of things, at least the Yanks are gone.

Agree with Mick - it's possible. Will we? Depends on the actions of our new owners. Roy needs jinged, but only when a suitable plan for a replacement is in place.

I dont think we`ll go down but escaping relegation is not the bench mark for success at this club.

Like I said in another thread, YES, we're too good to go down. But then again so were Leeds, Newcastle, etc... Fact is, it's not class or quality that makes you go down, it's form. And the form we're in at the moment, that has relegation written all over it. The only encouraging thing is that we have class and quality in abundance so all it'll take is something to spark the form back into life and we're more than capable of winning 5,6,7 maybe even 10 games on the trot. But real question now is: do we have the right manager to spark us into life? Roy has us playing like headless chickens at the moment. I can't see us being on a tactical equal to teams like Blackpool and Blackburn, let alone the big guns. So until we get it right, we're going to be staring down the barrel.

Somehow, I have faith that things will start to get better. Then at the business end of the season, we'll be ruing our poor start because we might have had a chance at top spot perhaps had we done better now.

Of course we could go down. Three teams will, and why could we be one of them? Given the way we are playing right now it is arrogance to say we couldn't go down.

I don't believe we will, in fact I'm sure we won't, but yes, we could.
