Congratulations jack robinson - Liverpool's youngest ever player

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Reg » Mon May 10, 2010 12:50 am

Jack Robinson, a 16-year-old left back, make his first-team debut against Hull today as a second-half substitute, becoming the youngest player in the history of the club.

“He was really lucky to play,” Benítez said. “The reserve team was away and came back late and we had problems with Fabio Aurélio and Emiliano Insúa. Jack was training with us and was doing well and we thought it could be an option. He is a young player and we are really pleased with him. He was clutching his shirt at the end.”

Never heard of the lad but he'll be delighted to win his first red jersey.

Only 16 and starting a match in the Liverpool first team.

Apparently this kid was the reason we sold Buchtmann to Fulham. He is rated as England's future first choice left back by his coaches at both Liverpool and the England U18's.

Massive future for this lad.

Good to see young English talent coming through the ranks, hopefully the first of many :)
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

Sub ;)

He also became the 30th Liverpool player to be used this season in the Premiership which is a club record in the Premiership and quite probably, given the increase in subs permitted/used, a club record overall.

Most players used in a Premiership season

30 (09/10) 7th
29 (04/05) 5th
29 (06/07) 3rd
27 (93/94) 8th : 42 games
26 (00/01) 3rd
26 (01/02) 2nd
26 (03/04) 4th
25 (98/99) 7th
25 (92/93) 6th : 42 games
25 (07/08) 4th

Sadly quite a few never got past 4-5 apps

1 app (4) : Darby, Kelly, Robinson, Eccleston
2 apps (1) : Dossena
3 apps (2) : El Zhar, Spearing
4 apps (1) : Pacheco
5 apps (1) : Ayala

Plenty thought the increase to seven subs permitted would mean more appearances for the kids, well I suppose to some degree they were right in as much as they got the odd appearance here and there, but I think most of us would have liked to see more of some of those names - and Nemeth.

And feel for our £3m benchwarming keeper who sat on it for 36 lots of 90 mins in the Premiership without even a token appearance - way to keep the players happy Rafa.......................

Good luck to the kid. He played a reallynice and crisp slipped inside pass to Gerrard as well near the end. The captain took it on, ran half the length of the pitch and hit the post with it. Fecking Gerrard

Nice though it was, bit of vision and a good give.

Why didnt he bring him on earlier? 3 minutes to go and nothing to play for?
I would have thought he could have given the lad a run out against the mighty Hull. Bit of forward thinking...?
