Cisse

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

does anyone know whether he is any good or will he be another one of houllier's french flop's. and on the subject of who should be next manager, i think we need to go for someone with experience of winning trophies, maybe one of the top italian manager's like trappatoni or even martin o'neill. and whoever said nobody would touch the liverpool job was talking cr@p, it's still one of the top manager's job in europe.

Cisse is a good player from what I've seen of him.  as for the Liverpool managers job, its far from poison but its definately not as atttractive  as it was 10 years ago.

all i can say is that the french league is no place to prove yourself in the bigger picture. all i can say is that for 13m or whatever we're paying he'd better do the business.

£13m is a MASSIVE gamble on a player who has not been tested in one of the top three European leagues. Even the German league would be a better test IMO

he has power, pace and he is decent in the air, he is little rough around the edges, but hopefully we can mould him into a top class striker, But i think we should sign a player who is the finished article! not players with potential all the time! i.e trezaguet, proven in serie a! awesome player, or maybe tristan!!!

yeah someone who's done it on the international stage would be nice. cisse hasn't done that yet. someone told me that he is faster, stronger and better in the air than henry. don't believe it until i see it consistently with my own eyes. it took henry the best part of two years to fully adjust to the premiership.

Your dreaming if you think we can get Trzeguet.

We can't attract top international, were not one of the top English sides, were not even in the champions league.

We have to buy players who will be potentialy good players.

I agree on your comments about Cisse that he is a bit raw, but given time he could develop into a top striker.

£13 mill is silly money though. I don't believe the fee will be a sbig as that. Am sure it will be tied into appearances and success at the club.
If he does cost 13 million then surely there will be no money left for other signings which could mean another season of Biscan, Smicer et al :(

Houllier could always sell Biscan, Heskey, Smicer et al to raise funds, but I seriously doubt a) we'd get much for them and b) Houllier would do it

I think the price for Cisse will be closer to 10MIL than 13MIL, and part of the funding will come from the sale of Heskey(fingers crossed).

if we make the champs league then Houlier will stay and we will definetely get him because then we should have the funds available. Dont forget Heskeys future is far from secure and if he goes that would generate a few million as wll as champs lge revenue.  I know Houlier has made some expensive errors but when you look at the likes of Man U they have wasted millions more than us

Veron 28m sold for i think 19m (Ranieri getting carried away there)
Ferdianand 32M (his value dropped from the day he signed)
Yorke 13M
Forlan 10M
and I'm sure theres loads more i cant think of but theve still kept spending and recently bought Ronaldo and Saha who still need to prove themselves.
Over Jan weve also seen Chelsea and Arsenal spend big money.  It seems to me if we are not ambitious in the transfer market we will never be able to compete at the top of the table.
At the moment we do not have the lure for polished players like Trezzeguet and if Cisse was to go and prove himself a world class player in Seri A then we would similarly have no chance of ever getting him. It seems to me that we are currently losing and drawing games because our strike force is not good enough, we are not creating enough good chances and missing the ones we get. French strikers seem to be the best in the world at the moment and this lad has been tipped to join them so dont knock the decision untill weve seen him play for at least a season.
Having said all that we dont want to end up like Leeds Utd and if we fail to qualify for champs lge again then we wont even be able to afford un-proven highly rated strikers

Well Yorke was bought for something like £13m and sold for £2m, I dread to think how little we'd get for Heskey as Yorke wasn't a relative flop at manure
