Cisse

A lot of you will criticise Cisse after that performance (some have already started), and rightly so, he was poor.

But I feel the lad has improved so much since signing. He has shown some really nice piece of link up play.

(I’m not referring to today when he passed back to Gerrard, I personally thought he should have turned and ran at the defence.)

But in previous games he has shown the ability to hold up and lay off well. He’s crossing ability is also improved and can often deliver a good ball. When he receives the ball he no longer just turns and hits the ball as hard as he can as he used too, and picks his head up instead. This is probably a reward of the training Rafa has clearly put him under.

However I have never seen a player so quick not poses the ability to beat his man. Some of you may compare that to Michael Owen who often found it difficult to beat a player with pace or skill, but even he could pull it off when it mattered. What Owen did have was a brain, a football brain that is and some how always found himself in the right place at the right time. That seems to be the key difference between a good striker and a class striker.

He also seems to be hit and miss technically, against Everton he showed a finish of a top quality striker, Thierry Henry would have been happy with that. But today couldn’t even show a good first touch, perhaps he showed go back to basics and practise Keeppy Uppy’s.

Although he is an extremely hard worker does he have enough in his locker to make it at Liverpool F.C.?

Alonso14, you are right, I think he is linking up better and working harder.  And his pace!  It gives us a different option from other players - we can pop the ball into the corner behind the defenders and he'll win the race 8 times out of 10.  He has delivered some reasonable balls into the box from out there too.

He is still young, and watching him I get the feeling that he's still got a bit of growing up to do.  His facial expressions tonight looked so exaggerated that I got the feeling that he was performing as much as genuinely :censored: off.  Maybe he just needs to stop worrying what others think of him, stop worrying about proving himself, and relax.

I don't like 'im much right now, but I desperately want him to succeed.  I think his attitude through the broken leg shows something special - or am I just falling for marketing spin?

i'm sorry, but my patience has worn thin with Cisse.  His performance today was a joke....ok, not everyone played well today, but they DID eventually show something towards the end, Cisse showed nothing but poor touches and even poorer passing/crossing.  I think he'll be gone in the summer, but i think it's now clear why Rafa doesn't play Ciise as much as everyone would like.

kewell, so we should get rid of kewell as well?
And what about crouch tonite? he was awful... we have to sell hypia as well right?
and carson? Get rid of him!!!risse was bad, lets loan him out then sell him.

Cisse has a lot more work to do but everyone is having more of a go because of the penalty. He still needs to improve but hes trying and he loves the club. he also has ability.

Cisse has proven what I already knew along with others, and that's that he has a first touch of a fucking wall.

Working hard is good but there has to be something else other than that. As you may recall Baros worked his socks off and won tons of free-kicks,corners and throw ins for us but wasn't enough for a striker. Thats why he was sold.

Cisse needs to improve in front of goal, yes he has 14 goals but he could have easily had 20 by now. For every 1 goal he scores, he misses 6 clear opportunities.

Whilst Benitez may not sell him this month, he might do so in the summer. Pongolle just could had saved himself from being shipped out [if the reports are true] and I wouldn't be suprised if he starts ahead of Cisse from this point on.

i'm not denying that Kewell, Carson, Hypia and the rest, had a poor game.  But this performance has summed up Cisse's LFC career.  I wouldn't sell him now, but come the Summer (after the World Cup) i'd let him go for anything over 9 million.

You dont get rid of one player on the basis of one performance but there is a hell of a lot of strikers out there who have more talent than cisse does, Pongolle makes him look a mug with his ability, hes improved yes, but not enough he doesnt do basic things well enough, he doesnt know how to play off Crouch, he doesnt know how to time a run, he doesnt know how to peel off a defender he doesnt have patience, the boy has an awful lot of flaws in his game and it would probably be easier selling him and bringing a naturally gifted player in, then trying to make Cisse something he isnt.

And this opinion isnt based on tonight, its my overall opinion of him.

I dont believe this?
Whats Morientes done then?

Yer why dont we get rid of the quickest player in our squad, hey and just keep playing two slow target men upfront.
great idea.

When cisse was starting games he was scoring but he has a problem with rafa. now hes trying too hard coz he knows he doesnt have much of an opportunity. I just wish everyone would get off his back for a bit and let him score goals. coz he will. score goals that is. The speed some of u fans jump on peoples backs is unbelievable

same here.  It's not tonight....it's his whole time here, it's not good enough!  when you pay 14 million quid on a striker, you shouldn't have to wait for him to 'improve'

Sorry but having pace up front doesn't guarantee you anything. When we played with Crouch and Morientes up front before Nando got injured, they did very well.

He will also keep missing countless opportunities in front of goal. He will eventually score but should be scoring more than he is because he's had those kind of chances.

you wont get 9m for him.
he tried his hardest but it wasnt his day.
the thing with this place is one minute, like after the super cup final, he`s a superhero with the powers of batman and now after a game like this he`s rubbish and wants offloading.
his touch isnt great but he causes teams problems with genuine pace and is always likely to turn up with a crucial goal like the one in the derby. players develop but people want great players off the shelf these days.
i think he`s trying too hard.

AB u r saying he should have 20 goals and its only january 7th?
Do we remember how crouch was scoring earlier on?

All im saying is that considering what cisse has been through and the ability we know he has he doesnt deserve the non stop harrassment most of you guys give him.
If he had scored the penalty would any of this banter be going on?
