Cisse on the way!

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby JBG » Fri Jan 09, 2004 5:36 pm

It looks like Dbjril Cisse will DEFINITELY join Liverpool on the 1st of July 2004.

Guy Roux (legendary Auxerre manager) said that while nothing has been signed yet, there is an understanding between the two clubs for the transfer of the player and Cisse himself is delighted with the move.

Roux says that he doesn’t know what the fee will be, but he thinks it might be £13.8 million.

It had been previously reported and undenied by all parties that Cisse was in Anfield last week. Cisse told the French media he was delighted with the set up at Anfield, particularly the training facilties.

Cisse is also friendly with Florent Sinama-Pongolle, who told the Liverpool fan magazine that Cisse has confided with him that he has his heart set on Liverpool.

Houllier denied last week that a deal was done, but then added that there might be a deal in the future.

Cisse also said that the move is not conditional on Houllier being manager, although common sense would tell you that a new manager might not want to sign him.

Roux’s interview also included the comment:

"I even feel he will cause absolute carnage in the English defences."

Sounds like the move is on, but this being football, you cannot rule out a last minute hijacking from the likes of Manure.

Personally I am sceptical of Cisse as the only time I saw him play in the flesh was last years game at Anfield and then he seemed more interested in keeping his hair cut tidy than scoring against us. Of course I have seen him on tv, and he looks good, but Diouff and Cheyrou also looked when in France but look what happened!

The difference with Cisse is that he is established in the France national squad.

He seems very keen on Liverpool and Liverpool alone, I can only gather that he is a boyhood Liverpool fan, and that can't be a bad thing, he seems determined to be a success at Liverpool.

Gerrard is a Liverpool fan, Paul Jones (our new loan signing) is a Liverpool fan and apparently Cisse is a liverpool fan. This surely means that the players have no excuses for wearing their hearts on their sleeves when they play and should be 150% committed to the cause. Similarly, on this basis, there should be no excuses for us doing well (a) for the remainder of this season and (b) into next season!!!!

Auxerre President Jean Claude Hamel (I think thats his name) says that Cisse will "definitely" be a Liverpool player next season.

Hamel says that Cisse had a medical at Anfield last week and the fee, while not finalised, while be around 13.9million sterling.

Hamel said that Auxerre wanted to keep Cisse but Liverpool's offer is too good to turn down and apparently Liverpool have offered Cisse "amazing" wages.

I doubt if Cisse had a medical last week and I expect that Rick Parry will soon announce that no deal is done, but there's no smoke without fire and there surely has been some negotiations taking place.

The report also said that Cisse has scored 63 goals in 6 seasons in France (albeit the first couple of seasons he was only a youngster) and 3 goals in 16 appearances for France.

I don't want to sound pessimistic Diouff scored around 50 goals in France in a similar time frame.

However, if Cisse joins Liverpool I wish him all the best!

but diouf plays wide right hed probably score more if he played up front. Apparently cisse scored 16 goals last season which isnt great but if we could give him the servise i reckon he'll score 20+ next season.

That is incorrect about Diouff.

Diouff's natural position is to play up front (behind a centre forward), but droping to the left hand touchline, like Thierry Henry. That is the position he played at Lens in France and that is the position he plays for Senegal.

When Diouff signed for us he played the first couple of games as a centre forward, before being moved to the left wing for a while and then finally on the right hand side.

When Diouff put in a few good performances in October Houllier praised him by saying that Diouff is doing really well for a guy playing out of position but that he (Houllier) had plans to ultimately switch Diouff back to centre forward.

I no he's playing out out of position, im just saying that if he had been played up front in his correct position since he joined the club, his goal tally for us may resemble what it was in france.

Thats true.

El Hadj tries his best, but sometimes I feel a bit sorry for him seeing that he's not given much of a chance up front.

Only seen Cisse on the box but he looks a classy mover and is a very nice size. He glides. Hopefully he can play a bit and attitude is something only the club can make a call on.

OLD NEWS EH!!!!
When you get the ball, I want you to beat a couple of men and smash the ball into the net, just the same way you used to at Bury," said Shankly. Lindsay replied: "But Boss that wasn't me, it was Bobby Kerr." Shankly turned to Bob Paisley and said: "Christ Bob, we've signed the wrong player."
