Cisse has to stay

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Firstly I would release Harry, he is a liability more than an asset to the club.

Now on Cisse, im with you 100% that anyone suggesting your season is over if he is sold is crazy, but I understand where those suggestions come from -

Liverpool have 3 strikers
(1) Fernando - who is NOT going to score the goals expected of him ... no chance.
(2) Crouch - who is NOT going to be first choice, who will be injured on and off and wont do the job against big teams
(3) Cisse - who is back from an injury, eager to prove his worth, fast smart and has a fierce shot, has a lot to give back to the fans for his support, has scored and setup, and most impotantly 'Looks hungry"

Therefore, a suggestion from the top of their heads saying if Cisse goes the club might not have that hungry striker that they now do - which maens opportunities will be created and not finished - like whats happening in the EPL with Fernando as 1st choice --- all makse a little sense.

IMO you should not sell him.

Cisse had some great chances against Sunderland, and failed to convert them. So even having Cisse doesn't guarantee that we will score goals. He hasn't shown anything on the pitch that suggest that he will score week in and week out.

... and neither has Fernando. Cisse has just scored 2 and setup one  (cant comment on the goals and setup as i did not see the game) and his confidence is high. Im sure Rafa will start with him against the Gooners as he has just scored and the worst thing you can do to a striker is keep him on the bench after he has just won you a game, heck a cup if you want to take the super cup seriously!

All strikers miss chances, RVN does, Henry does, Crespo does, Defoe does .. everyone does. But once they score a goal their confidence is high and they believe they can score next time.

Fernando has looked cr@p. Bad movement, bad play, bad everything.

... and also. You say he got into positions to score against Sunderland and fluffed them -- wouldnt you want a striker who atleast gets into goal scoring positions as opposed to one who doesnt even find himself in those positions (nando)

Morientes has fluffed his fair share of chances as well.

Fernando was a top player many years ago for Madrid. He played alongside Raul. At Monaco he peaked, he was arguably the most expensive player in the club which didnt have so many star players. He and Guily along with Rotthen were the heart of the team. Its easy to play well when you have 2 or 3 players who are known as the best in the team.

At Liverpool he isnt the star of the team, people will talk about Gerrard, Carra, Alonso, Hamman, Hyypia, Sisoko, Garcia and then about Fernando.

He doesnt have the pace for the English game, he doesnt have the muscle for the English defenders ... he doesnt have confidence at the moment - none at all. Once he scores a few he will be in good sync -- but im far from convinced that he will score 15+ goals.

... to Cisse this might not matter (not being star of the team) and all he has is a one track mind to score and perform (like a teenager who is raring to go at evertything).

For fernando its different, he has come from "Real Madrid", one of the best and most successful clubs in the world - he has a reputation to live up to, he has doubts in his head (like when the teenager becomes 25-26 and has to get hold of his life and live up to expectations) He has to prove that he still is the player that he once was,

.. so to play with all this pressure and not have a one track mind at scoring isnt the right frame of mind a 1st choice striker should have at a club that wants to relive the glory days and that has a manager who can bring them a lot of success.

You see this is why I always like reading your posts Chelsea forever, you are usually fair and make good points.

mmmmm, Morientes just seems to be suffering from depression or something similar, he looks so uncomfortable, he misses headers he would usually score with his eyes closed, clearly something is BADLY wrong with him, and the matter is not helped when he gets such poor service.

His mental state is affecting his game so badly, it's extremely sad to see such a great footballer become what he is at this moment in time.

Thing is, it's not just Morientes that's not playing well, I think most of the team is not playing all that hot right now and most of the focus is on el Moro because he is being picked as the main striker and not scoring.

When Morientes is ok, he plays best in a team that is compact and plays one touch football, with good crossers.

I diasgree with you regarding Morientes physical power, he is in fact a VERY strong and muscular player....having said that perhaps you are right when it comes to the speed of the premiership not suiting el Moro.

Deep down somwhere he's still gotta be that awesome player, surely that doesn't just disappear in a space of 12 months?

Even if Morientes was fully fit mentally, perhaps he would encounter the same problems as Crespo in Chelsea.

Cheers :)

The thing is, Crespo has come back from a wonderful season at Milan. Crespo has consistenly produced for every club he has played at, Lazio, Parma, Inter, Ac and even Chelsea where in 03-04 he scored 10 from 19 games which isnt bad.

He has come back and in 10 mins produced a wonder goal at Wigan - you gotta take your hat off to that cauz it was a goal in a class of its own!

Crespo is willing to run, he is willing to try he is hungry - very hungry.

I dont see that hunger in Fernando.
