Chelsea/gerrard - The plot thickens

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Chelsea tv ran an interview with Kenyon today.

Although he mentioned nothing about Gerrard, he stated that Chelsea will no longer be interested in signing Deco from Porto.

His reason was that Joe Cole will be given more of a chance next season.

Reading between the lines, and considering Chelsea's already overpopulated midfield, it would appear that Gerrard has now replaced Deco as Chelsea's top target.

If Gerrard does actually go to chelsea (which looks more and more likely with everyday) we should spend the money to buy Deco as he is a fantastic player

Apparenetly Madrid are now favourites to sign for him.

Its all very starnge, as Deco said last week he had agreed in principle to join Chelsea and would have a medical and sign for them when Euro 2004 was over.

Gerrard is the best young midfielder in Europe and is a future European Player of the Year. Losing him is inconceiveable. Our whole team should be built around him. If Deco isn't good enough for Chelsea, he certainly is not good enough for Liverpool, or have we forgotten exactly who we are.
To get back to the summit of English and European football, we need the best players in England and Europe, simple as that!!
We have to hold on to Gerrard, at any cost! Lose him and BANG! we're back another five years. Having said that, I am more than a bit irked that he would even consider leaving a club like Liverpool, to join an international band of mercenaries, who are nothing more than the play thing (if not the laundry mat!) of some Russian billionaire.
First job, for new manger-convince Gerrard to stay. If he can do that, he'll have gone a long way to winning the hearts and minds of us, the long suffering, patient, heart broken, hopeful fans!!!

Maybe Liverpool have asked such an obscene amount for steve that Mourinho cant afford Deco anymore? I heard somewhere that he had budgeted 50million on midfielders,30m for Gerrard and 20m for Deco.Probably bulls.hit but you never know.

stevie g is going nowhere, ive heard from someone in huyton who knows the gerrard family, that stevie really was planning on joining chelsea, all his mates where telling him he would be mad not to turn that type of money down. Now Stevie is not so sure and he has told certain family and friends that he may give the reds another year and see what benitez does!

I think you all need to stop having silly delusions about Steven Gerrard.
He's signed a four year deal and aint going no where!
He (and Owen), have not even impressed that much in the Euros.
Stevie G has not had a chance to defend himself about all these silly rumours. I dont give a fook about what peter Kenyon said the baldy fooker.

Stop beliveing the ****** you read in the Sun newspaper. today it said Chelsea are making an 80 million bid for owen and rooney! even though not a jot of it is true! chelsea hve made no such bid, Everton wont let rooney go, and stevie is going nowhere, but anything for a sensational headline.

Brilliantly said!!! Couldn't have put it better.

As for Everton not letting Rooney go, Moyes could'nt have done more to sell him if he'd tattoed '30 million + and he's yours' on his forehead before kick off on Monday night.

I think you are deluding yourself, Hustler.

There's certainly something to the stories, and if you think a contract will hold Stevie here then it is you that are delusional.

If an employee wants to break a contract there is very little and employer can do, as no court will force an employee to remain working somewhere he is not happy.

Unfortunately thats the way it is and player power is paramount nowadays.

No one here is listening to the Sun or other tabloids, the rumours are coming from Portugal.

The rumours are coming from portugal? so you are saying Stevie G is negotiating a chelsea deal whilst in the england camp and focusing on Euro 2004?

You are even stupider than you sound.

SO his contract doesnt mean squat? you moron. When you sign on the dotted line it is a legally binding document. Stevie G cant do a thing about it! It would state that he has to play footy for LFc, and if he didnt want to its a breach of contract.
Listen you fool, Rick Parry is the boss, he got rid of Houllier and terminated his contract, and stevie g is tied LEGALLY to the club.
Never mind if he wants to leave, he can walk away, thats a breach of contract and is gross misconduct. He could be sacked!

Contracts aren't worth the paper they are written on.As Parry said last week if any player makes his mind up he doesn't want to play for you anymore, then there is little you can do to stop them from leaving. You just end up trying to broker the best deal you can for any such player.
