Champions league seedings

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Arsenal and Manchester United have retained their place among the group of top seeds in the Champions League.
But Liverpool and Chelsea will be in the pot of second seeds with the likes of AC Milan, Juventus, Roma and Inter.

The seeding means Arsenal and United, if they qualify, will avoid holders Porto and Spanish sides Real Madrid, Valencia, Barcelona and Deportivo.

Uefa changed their seedings to give more weight to how an individual club has performed in Europe in the past.

Bayern Munich, Deportivo La Coruna, Porto join the Spanish trio, Arsenal and United in the top group of seeds.

This means when the draw is made in Monaco on 26 August they cannot be drawn in the same group.

But Real Madrid, Sir Alex Ferguson's team and Deportivo still have to win a two-legged qualifier first.

Rangers, who also need to qualify, and Celtic are likely to be among the third pot of seeds.

Uefa also revealed the draw for the third qualifying round of the tournament will see seeded sides drawn against unseeded teams.

This means United and Liverpool will avoid major European rivals such as Real or Juventus as they seek to reach the final 32 teams.

4 spanish teams in the top 6. Impressive. Liverpool must hope for Porto or maybe La Coruna from the top seeds if Liverpool qualify. A group with Liverpool and Valencia might produce a bit of hot blood...

mancs getting knocked out during the quals, no matter how narrow, and missing out on millions of extra TV money. Then, they go on in the FA Cup and the League Cup only to be knocked out in the quarters or semis after some play-offs and become too tires towards the title run-in that they finish outside the top 4 and failing to qualify for the following season's CL.

What a fantasy!

We tend to play better against the bigger teams bar Valencia and Barca, in recent memory anyway. As much as I want to believe a fate like the one described by azriahmad lies in store for the s.cum I dread them pulling something out of the bag and them putting us in our place again. I think it will not be this season but they are defo in decline. Its all cycles, just like what happened to us, when you have a team that dominates for so long with key players at the top of their game for a decade it becomes impossible to replace theses players as they come to the end of their careers. How are they going to replace Keane, Scholes, Giggs, Horse, nevilles etc. These players cannot be replaced easily, if at all, in the transfer market. Sir Muppet is no Wenger and Im loving Fergusons desperation in the transfer market. I mean what the hell is signing Smith about. The key is when a cycle ends like it will over the next few seasons to have in place at Liverpool something which can usurp their domination. I believe we will have that in time. WE have a top young manager, some quality young prospects and others such as stevie g and Owen who are stalwarts of the team and still younger than I am, we have a new stadium to look forward to increasing our gate and revenue. If we are in that position in the next 2-3 years Its possible we too could begin to match the clout of manure we are not that far behind them in terms of worldwide audience already. Stevie g hopefully will become keane and Beckham rolled into one in terms of the staus of Beckham and Keanes influence, dont get me wrong I dont wanna see him on the front of every rag every day I mean the esteem he is held with all over the world. Stevie can do it on the back of his talent alone and not rely on shall we say on media cultivation and a popstar wife. Also you never know, Rafa may well turn Cisse into the next Henry but with a touch more pace and the ability to head the ball.
The best thing about it all is that we can do this without selling the soul of the club to the stock market, if we can achieve this we can bury manure and their money grabbing dirty little club into the catagory of what football nearly became and justify our rightful place at the very top.
P.S it might help if Wenger takes a job elsewhere coz lets face it he is the man at the mo.
The man who came to merseyside from Newcastle, the man who says he's part of Liverpool as much as the Liver building. When he was needed Alan Kennedy was there. And with now just 8 minutes to go it could be that Alan Kennedy has made a little history.
