Xabi Alonso has revealed that he would like to play Real Madrid in the knockout stage of the Champions League.

Having finished as leaders in their group, Liverpool could face Inter Milan, Sporting Lisbon, Villarreal, Lyon or Real Madrid in the last 16.

“Of course, we always want to go to new stadiums. For example, we haven’t played at the Bernabeu with Liverpool and it would be a good venue to play at,” Alonso told liverpoolfc.tv.

“We have been back to Spain four times since I have been here. We won at Deportivo La Coruna and Real Betis, as well as Barcelona, and drew with Atletico.

“Hopefully if we go to Spain we can do the same again.

Indeed, I'd love to play Real Madrid but they will be a completely different team when it comes time to actually play them.  Who knows if they will be better or worse but certainly not the team they are now.  Still though like people said we haven't played Madrid in a long time it would definitely be fun.
