If Carroll does fu'ck all throughout the season but scores the winning goal in the carling or fa cup final, or scores to get us into the top four, or, miraculously to win us the league then he will be worth every penny of the £40 million we paid for him

It has to be said though... When no one else was in for Carroll why did we pay 35 million up front for him? Anyone can say it doesn't matter what we pay for him because the money comes from Torres sale but that's ludicrous. Were we that desperate to sign a quality striker? Were there nonother choices? Why was Kenny and commolli so convinced that Carroll was worth that money? Questions still left unanswered...

Apparently Spurs had made a 25M offer for him.

That should be motivation for the lad to go out and bang in a few goals!!!  To be honest, Im not sure he'll even feature in the next 2 league games.   Id prefer to see us play 4-5-1 so we dont get destroyed in CM.

Even if they did, we went to £35m??? Wtf, and after seeing the way they deal in the transfer market it would be highly unlikely that Spurs would have put the cash on the table all at once.

This guy seems a prat, but the story sounds plausible and we were done over on this deal. At first I thought that Kenny pushed for his signing in Jan in the faint hope of still nicking fourth, but this can't have been the case as the club would have known that Carroll was injured for 5-6 weeks.

I actually think the owners misread the situation and thought they had to get a big signing if Torres went, or face the ire of Liverpool supporters, and did not want to get the treatment that H&G did. It was a massive error to buy him then and not wait until the Summer, when we would have probably saved around £10-15m.

Isn't hindsight a wonderful thing? For all we knew he could have come in and been a world beater. I know that I for one was genuinely excited after he destroyed Man City at home. Nobody knew he was going to get injured and then struggle for form and consistency thereafter.

no one else wanted Carroll? what utter b0ll0cks.

Spurs were in for him and offered 27 million at one stage...but pulled out after it was clear Carroll wanted to come to Anfield.

it's also well known that spurs made an enquiry for rossi on deadline day and were quoted £30m+. teams play ridiculously inflated prices on deadline day which is why i don't agree with the transfer window full stop. it's absolutely ludicrous.

spurs and their usual deadline day propaganda, their record signing is about 15m for modric and they are well known for paying in instalments, never were they going to pay 25m+ for Carroll. Unless a player really wants to go to spurs we'd always get him as we offer more wages and higher transfers. The simple fact is we got done on the deal, if we waited until the summer we would have been in a stronger bargaining position.

It's not hindsight, Nobody knew he was going to get injured...true, but WE BOUGHT him injured and knew he would hardly play for us last season, so there was no need to buy him at THAT time. We would have been the biggest club in for him, and therefore always favourites to sign him.

If you look at where we finished in the table and how much work needed to be done to try and get into Europe, it looks more and more like a panic buy.  In hindsight it would have been better to wait until the Summer to spend the Torres money on a striker, but at the time Carroll was bought I was very excited at the prospect of Suarez + Carroll partnership.  I still thing Carroll is a useful player, just not a 35milion worth of useful.

Its hard to take anyone on the Newcastle board seriously, seeing as they continue to screw the supporters over. How did it go? he told the supporters, "ha ha yeah, we robbed Liverpool, blind !"

Supporters laughed,

"oh yeah we are renaming the stadium, but Andy Carroll eh?"

"hahahaha yeah...wait what?"

"nothing..."

The long and short of it is this. Whether it is proved or not we have overspent, the simple fact is we don't have to rename our stadium, we don't have to sell players and our board don't f*ck about with the feelings of the supporters. Whats the bet that £35 million will be used to pay off towards the transfers for the next 3 windows?

Carroll aint worth 35m, that what's happens when we shop at the death,
we have only ourselves to blame.
Well, Enrique aint worth 8m too, more likely 15-20m, so i guess it even out.
