Carling cup draw - We got...

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Owzat wrote:"Carling cup draw, We got..." ..........knobbed again. One of our shippers is basically a building full of Chelsea fans and we pretty much guessed we'd end up drawing each other. So we're having to do it the hard way, win three on the bounce in the Champions League just to make the Last 16 and beat the Ruski roubles on their own turf for a League Cup semi. What odds we land Arsenal, the mancs or Chelsea in the FA Cup 3rd round?

I get this ominous feeling we won't be unbeaten in the league for many hours longer

Thats all our own fault.

Reguarding the draw I was slightly hoping for an all Mersey affair and rather hoped we would draw Everton home or away. However it seems we are destined for another encounter with this joke of a football club.

Reckon Benitez will stick with some of the younger lads and just hope for the best. Personally I wouldn't put any of the first teamers (Torres, Kuyt, Gerrard, Carra, Reina and Alonso) anywhere near this fixture, but injuries are kind of forcing our hand. I reckon Chelsea will have the same ethos as neither manager will want to lose the game with full strength teams out so expect chopping and changing from both with a so so attitude towards the result of the game.

Should be a great game, should be at least a 2-0 win to us.

Bad news is Benitez's record at Chelsea;
04/05 League  Lost 0 -1
04/05 C/Lg     Drew 0 - 0
05/06 C/Lg     Drew 0 - 0
05/06 League  Lost 0 - 2
06/07 League  Lost 0 - 1
06/07 C/Lg     Lost 0 - 1

The omens are not good

Wow, we haven't even scored at Stamford Bridge under Rafa  :Oo:  Oh well, there is a first time for everything! It's gonna be interesting which teams are put out, as it is right in the middle of a very busy december period.

How many times have they beaten us in a cup competition?

That's right - once.

How many times have we beaten them?

That's right - 3 times.

If this was a 2 legged champs leahue semi, or an FA Cup semi on neutral grond then I would be more optimistic.

I dont think we'll play a strong team with an Xmas schedule coming up.

The thing is - do we CARE about the Carling Cup?

It's a second-rate competition, when alls said and done.

And no - we haven't scored at Sh*tford Bridge, primarily because the refs in each game were too busy looking at their Chelsea Chequebooks to notice the fouls in the area.

Well if we dont beat Beskitas the Carling Cup sould suddenly become important to Rafa.
