I remember standing in a foggy Amsterdam  years ago when we had just been beaten 5-1 by a bit of a team. Blamed everyone I could think of for the scoreline, including Shankly, including Paisley and the rest.
Never thought for a minute that I'd just seen a great team beat us even though it was the original AJAX. You get blinded by the loyalty and look for reasons and people to blame for the scoreline.
We all know that last May was a one off and the manner of the win will never be repeated. We have got to come back to the real world and accept that we've a long way to go before we can really EXPECT wins as a matter of course.

I agree Bull.

Chelsea deserved to win today but even they will have to admit that 4-1 flattered them. We matched them for long periods of the match and we ran the midfield. We couldn't open them up. They probably have the best defence I have ever seen, better than George Graham's Arsenal in 1991, better than AC Milan's in 1990, and they will concede very few goals this season.

Rafa got it wrong in the second half but he has far few resources at his disposal than Mourinho. He isn't a perfect manager but he is a damn good one and I don't think today's defeat will define our season.

People going on about "our season being over" are clearly missing the point. We were never going to win the league this year, and our main objective is to get in between Arsenal and Man UTD. Neither of them are perfect this season either, and we are still on course to have a decent crack at accomplishing that.

Rafa still has my backing, 100%, even if I do often disagree with some of his decisions, I think he is the best man for the job, and he will eventually make us a team to be feared.

Friggin hell lad !!! If you're 40 and never seen it you must have picked your games !!!

Today was a bad, really bad, result at exactly the right time.

Been an awful lot of bull talked about recently - I believe they call it a reality something or other.
Not bothered and not really worried!

If you think this is bad then imagine what it was like in the 60s when the Bluenoses did it and the man of the match was a player who WE  sold to them - Johnny Morrisey !!!

Pretty much agree with most of that JBG and Johnbull. Almost every situation and bounce went in their favour, from Drogba's ricochet into his path for the penalty to Riise's shot from distance beating Cech all ends up but skimming the bar. They deserved it but will beat a few more teams this seson so we're not on our own.
For my money, it puts the performance and the negative tactics employed at Birmingham into sharp focus. We should definately have won there and the people who made the silly comments at the time about "having patience FFS" can now see the reality if you fail to take relatively easy points which are rarely on offer in the Prem.

Didn't we get run over by Man Utd at home 3 or 4 years ago or was that at Old Trafford?

The season is not over for us just because we lost this game. We were never going to win the league in the first place[if you thought that then its time to take off your tinted glasses], the objective is to finish above Man Utd or Arsenal. Chelsea are untouchable right now for any team in the Premiership.

We've had a tough opening schedule and now it's important to pick up maximum points against Blackburn and West Ham next.

Jack 66 "LAD" - I've seen us played off the pitch at Anfield more times than I care to remember, today wasn't one of them.
I've seen West Brom walk away after a 3-0 win where we never got a touch they WERE that much better than us, it should have been 10 - 0. I was on the Kop clapping the Great Leeds side when they justifiably won the Championship  Such is life !.

Agree with the gist of this post. I haven't seen many 4-1 games like that. They had 5/6 chances and put most of them away. Chelsea looked like champions out there today and Drogba played his best game for them. Agree with JBG that their back 6 is one of the best you will ever see. You have to cause them problems on the flanks to get any change out of chelsea and we simply aren't equiped to do that right now.

I think we all agree that this is a bit of a reality check for the fans and reckon the international break has come at a right time for the gaffa and his staff.

If Rafa called it wrong and FWIW today I'm not certain he did, then he surely called it wrong on Wednesday because we largely played the same system as far as I could see. Playing a bit defensively against the top teams is understandable, it's when we do it against the lesser teams that I get depressed.

don't blame chelski, don't get me wrong I hate em but today it was us that was the problem.

I don't want to call for Rafa's head but it may be inevitable if he persists with playing sh!t formations. Sorry but 4-5-1, as i have said many times, is not the formation you play if you want to win. I'm sorry but Rafa is blind, if it is obvious to us fans it is wrong then he should be seeing it. Maybe he feels like he should justify buying that crock of sh!t Crouch by playing him every game.

Liverpool are an attacking team, we are free flowing and should not be losing this heavily. Sorry but rafa needs to sort this out.

I am a loyal fan but if liverpool continue playing this way, i will be calling for the managers head because we are sh1t at the moment
