a new bid for Simoa wouldn't suprise me, but spending near enough £13m on him would be a big waste of budget, putting all your eggs in one basket?

I dunno.

If i were Benitez i'd go for Gonzalo from Villarreal, young Argentinain CB bags of pace, would compliment Hyypia or Carra since there not the fastest.

Zenden for me was a silly buy when you alrwady have Kewell. Good back-up i suppose but takes a sqaud place, costs you a wage, and that could go towards someone else.

Gonzalez is supposed to be sh*t hot, i've never seen him, but it looks like you've got the work permit sorted, so really just the right needs sorting.

how about Malbranque?

Quality player, would jump at the chance to go to you, wouldn't really cost too much, £5m would bag him. You already know he can play in the EPL and with consistancy, something in which your imports IMO are lacking.

Gonzales may prove to be a brilliant aquisition. Having said that, he doesn't come from the top division in Spain and his record on paper doesn't look too awe inspiring so I'd be wary of placing too much hope on his young shoulders. He may come in and uproot trees but the memory of the hapless Nunez still lingers on and he came from Madrid. Hopefully Gonzales will develop into a player but I'd be staggered if he becomes even a first team regular any time soon. Mind you the way rafa plays it theres not many first team regulars in the true sense of the word anymore anyhow come to think of it.

To be fair to Gonzales he was actually playing in la primera before Albacete got relegated last season while he was out injured. I remember reading an article on skysports just after he got injured and it said how alot of the top clubs were watching out for him (including us) and a move for him would have to be delayed so he could end up being a top player for us.

You're right Mick, I was making the same point about Gonzalez in another thread a while ago.  I don't think he's going to be the type of player who comes in and transforms our season.  He's only a young lad and he'll need a while to settle I reckon.

If we expect him to come out all guns blazing when he signs we'll be disappointed.

As for who we need to buy in January, you can add a striker to a centre half and right winger as MUST buys.  I'd personally be disappointed with any less and I don't want to see more Spaniards that I haven't heard of.

If it was me I'd go for Robbie Keane, Pennant and I'm not decided about which centre half.  Benitez won't touch either of these players though

i agree with you,i think we need more british players in the side, but i would like him to try to get matthew upson for center back.iv'e allway's liked pennant and think he would be a good buy,but the problem is, we could buy the best players in europe, but when they pull the red shirt over their head the turn in to sh*te.and's a mystery why it happens, but it does,

Robbie Keane would be an excellent signing
Rafa Doesn't like playing 2 up front and niether Morientes
or Crouch can play the lone striker role.
When he plays Cisse he plays him out wide.
Keane is out of Favour at spurs so lets bag him probally only cost bout 5 million too.

Trust the manager. He is a very intelligent coach and will make the right signings. I guess he will bid for Simao again and if Mark Gonzales get his work permit,  i'm sure u'll see a much improved side with many crosses for the strikers. Phillippe Mexes from Roma won't be a bad buy as CB as we badly need cover for Sami Hyppia, who appears to be getting slower with time. Mexes is a good time of Cisse and Sissoko from their time at Auxerre.

We don't really need strikers as i think we should give chances to the youngster such as Florent Sinama-Pongolle and Ramon Calliste(playing very well for reserves since he joined from Sc*ms.

Harry Kewell's return to fitness is gonna help as well just as Bolo Zenden gradually finding his feet again.
