BLACKBURN ROVERS VS LIVERPOOL - Will we beat blackburn?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Let's just go out and play 'pass and move'. It's that straight forward is it? The football hasn't been pretty the past few weeks but don't all sit their pretending we've been nothing but a long ball team the past four seasons.

Sure it's been mentioned before but we played some lovely pass & move football under Roy Evans and won f..u..c...k all.

that's why i don't agree with 'Rafa has to go' Sentiments... At least  his tactical knowledge is a lot superior than most managers around. anyway, Rafa can always try something new... :)

U cant argue that under Rafa is hasnt been the most expansive of football?  It will be interesting to see how the team starts and whether Rafa will actually go 4 the win or put out a negative side with the aim of not conceding.

Coca Cola cup in 95 shows we did something :P

Also under Evans we were never more than 20 points the champions like we have been under Benitez, so in english football passing works. Bit of advice go and watch some videos of Livepool in the mid 80s and watch better football than Arsenal play now. Passing football is what will trophies in the english game.
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

My friend is an arsenal fan and all he says to me is "its like watching Liverpool in the 80's".

The football under evans was great.  He was the first manager to ditch the 4-4-2 and started the wingback craze. At times we would destroy sides.  We would go to OT and play them off the park.

He took over at a bad time for the club and after 4 years never won the title but hey neither did houllier and this is rafa's 4th year.

I'm not knocking Evans and i loved watching us play for much of his tenure but i nver felt like we were gonna win anything.

As for the 80's i'm not so young (unfortunately) that i can't remember how good we were to watch back then, i've got a copy of the 5-1 demolition of Notts Forest on tape and watched it back a little while ago, fantastic stuff.

BUT while we don't play the most expansive game under Benitez a lot of posters are now painting a picture of Rafa's teams as boring, predictable, long-ball, negative etc. The media do the same but it's lazy journalism, we have put in some fantastic performances in Benitez's tenure. While we have struggled to sort out the away form every other season, our home form has been very good. I would argue that we have passed the ball well, controlled games and attacked visiting teams. OK, it hasn't always been scintilating but we've still played a lot of good football under Rafa.

it's pure media bias mate simple as. they rarely have a good word to say about us.

i thought we played some brilliant stuff against derby but the media just latch on to how poor derby were. contrast this to arsenal beating one of the worst teams in champions league history 7-0 and it being lauded as one of the greatest perfomances of all time.

I think the side we now have under Benitez is defensively as strong as we've been since Brucie, Nicol, Hansen, Lawro and Staunton was the back 5, but going forward I think Evans had a better bunch of players than Benitez has now. Saying that the players Benitez has at his disposal we could play as good a level of football as we did under Evans. The fans weren't happy under Houllier when we lumped the ball up to Owen to see what happened, with the arrival of Torres and his pace, I think we could revert back to over the top football.

That's the last thing i want to see mate but like you say, it's something that 'could' happen and not something that has nessesarily happened already. We have got a bit long-ballish at times with Torres in the side, particularly Reina and to a lesser extent Riise, Carra and Gerrard who have all been guilty of hitting too many hopeful (or Hollywood) balls in the direction of the Spaniard. However, Benitez is no long-ball merchant, his mantra is 'controlling the game' and you cannot do that without the ball.
