Biscan not offered new contract - Good luck igor!

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby stmichael » Wed Jun 08, 2005 2:37 pm

Igor Biscan's Liverpool revival is over. The Croat hasn't been offered a new deal and he's available on a Bosman transfer, with Italians Lazio leading the chase. The 27-year-old midfielder played a major role in the club's triumphant Champions League campaign, enjoying his most consistent season since his £5.5m transfer in 2000.

However, his radical improvement wasn't enough to convince manager Rafa Benitez to prolong his Liverpool career.

Biscan will leave with his head held high following a season in which he finally showed some of the potential which motivated Gerard Houllier to lure him from Croatia Zagreb.

After a nightmare spell in defence two seasons ago, he was far more comfortable in his favoured central role.

His performances against Deportivo La Coruna, Bayer Leverkusen and Juventus went some way to restoring a hitherto blemished reputation, and the shy Croat even became a folk hero for some sections of the Anfield crowd.

All the best in the future Igor  :buttrock

prob right that he is going for 1st team footy. As a squad player, especially when we were without Stevie and Alonso this season, he's been excellent. If being a back up isn't enough for him, then I wish him all the best, bu it's a shame we cnat keep him............

Just another sign of Rafa making the right decisions, Igor deserves credit for his efforts last season. But if anyone is honest we need better even as squad players. Thanks Igor and Good luck.

Thank goodness Rafa has the guts to make the hard decisions. Think of how hard it would be to tell Dudek he's not needed.

I have to say I am surprised at that one, I thought he may have kept him as (adequate) cover, but maybe not.

A true and consumate proffesional, never once spoke to the papers when he was not in fovour (see Milan Baros) and deserves to do well whereever he goes.

I hope he goes abroad as I can see him doing really well at the likes of West Ham given a long stint in the contre of the park.

The right decision in the end, even if he did have a good season.

Could mean that hamann has definitely decided to stay on though which is good news.  Heard rumours hamann had been offered a new 1yr deal but didn't hear confirmation that he'd signed it.  Rafa isn't gonna let them both leave for free, and the best one has been kept on.

We will need another centre mid next season as cover though.  Hargreaves?  Zenden?  It won't be a big name as Gerrard and Alonso will be starters
