In the racing post today:
THIERRY HENRY to sign for Liverpool – it would seem like one of the most unlikely transfer rumours of the summer but a sensational gamble was yesterday developing on the Frenchman swapping London for Merseyside.
The Arsenal talisman has been slashed from 10-1 to 3-1 with Hills to be snapped up by Rafael Benitez, while Betfred and Ladbrokes also reported significant interest in Henry to depart Islington.
Hills spokesman Graham Sharpe said: “We started to take calls asking for odds for Henry to join Liverpool a couple of days ago and initially offered 10-1, not believing it was that likely a move.
However, after an increasing amount of calls and bets – predominantly from the Liverpool area – we have shortened the odds.”
Betfred had reported a gamble on Henry joining Liverpool in January (20-1 to 6-1) and over the past 24 hours that price proved popular and he is now 5-2 to head to Anfield.
“Interest from Liverpool-based customers grows by the second and we may well have to cut the price again. Many punters believe this is a nailed-on move,” said Betfred'sPeter Collins.
Ladbrokes are betting on whether Henry stays with Arsene Wenger's side next term and they go just 6-5 he is elsewhere as punters latch on to the rumours linking him with the Reds.
“We've laid a number of three-figure bets to Liverpool-based punters about Henry not being at Arsenal for the start of next term,” said Ladbrokes' Nick Weinberg.
