Dirk Kuyt and Andriy Voronin will lead Liverpool's attack against Besiktas in Istanbul this evening.

Meanwhile, Xabi Alonso makes the bench after returning from a five-week lay off.

The team in full is: Reina, Finnan, Riise, Hyypia, Carragher, Mascherano, Gerrard, Pennant, Babel, Kuyt, Voronin.

Subs: Itandje, Hobbs, Alonso, Sissoko, Lucas, Benayoun, Crouch.

A couple of first impressions of that line-up:

1) Crouch certainly does seem surplus to requirements at this point.  At best, he is fourth-choice striker by some distance (as in, will only get a look in for the domestic cup matches, all else being equal)

2) Only two selection changes from the derby (Pennant and Babel in, Sissoko and Benayoun out).  Interestingly, that's one more change than Arsenal made (Walcott in, Eduardo out), but it's two less than Man U made (Vidic, Ronaldo, Fletcher and O'Shea in, Pique, Nani, Scholes and Evra out) between Saturday and last night.  Just to get that on record.

It's a strong squad and I feel Liverpool will try to siege their goal from moment one. I think it's wise to keep Mascherano in the starting eleven after the 5 unactive weeks of Alonso, although I think ALonso will play 30 mins in the second half. It proves that Gerrard-Mascherano partnership was far from being discarded as an option.

Torres is not in the bench, I hope he's recovered totally for Arsenal game.

I'd substitute Gerrard if we're winning comfortably, as we need him 100% against Arsenal.

Cooooome oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Babel looked a bit useful powering through the middle there. I really wish Rafa would give him a chance as an out and out front man.
