Baros to valencia - Who will we take?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Got this from bbc sport. if it all goes ahead, would we go for a swap deal? and if so...who?

Valencia president Juan Soler has told a Spanish radio station he is in talks with Liverpool striker Milan Baros.
"We are negotiating with the Czech (Baros) and with four or five players of the same quality," he told Radio 9.

"These players are from Europe and South America and we are trying to do things in plenty of time, both with Baros and with the others."

Baros, 23, was the leading scorer at Euro 2004 but has struggled this season and scored 13 goals for the Reds.

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez led Valencia to the Spanish league title last season before moving to Anfield.

He has been linked with going back to his former club to sign Pablo Aimar or Ruben Baraja and a swap deal could be in the pipeline.

But, with Valencia challenging for a Champions League place, Soler refused to elaborate on any possible ins and outs.

He added: "Some of the players who are coming are going to replace those who are already here, so it is for the best that we do not speak too much about the subject.

"I don't want the team to lose concentration as we aim for our objective of returning to Europe."

Has to be Vicente.  Ayala is getting on a bit and don't think Aimar would cut it in the prem.

Wouldn't mind Canizares on a short term deal either, think he's getting on a bit as well

Ive heard its Ruben baraja plus 5 million to Liverpool, I think Rafa should just say Aimar, and Baraja for baros :D

Don't think we need baraja if Gerrard stays.  He won't come to warm the bench for Stevie and Xabi

If Gerrard stays I cannot see room for Baraja. If Hamman goes someone like Albelda would be more suitable.

I cannot see where we could fit Aimar in as Benitez has earnmarked Garcia for his "hole" player and has told papers in Spain that Garcia is one of the cornerstones of his rebuilding of the side.

I like Aimar but I'm not sure whether he's suitable to the Premiership.

Isn't that tapping up them saying they are in negotiating with Baros without talking to Liverpool first  ???  I would like Vicente but how likely is it that they would swap him for Baros very unlikely  :(

In the report it stated

"Some of the players who are coming are going to replace those who are already here, so it is for the best that we do not speak too much about the subject".

so heres hoping that we will get Vincente. Rafa can certainaly attract top players.

Not if we have given them permission ... and judging by the Valencia guy's quotes, i'm guessing that we have, otherwise he is talking himself into some serious trouble.

Here's a turn up for the books from BBC website

Rafael Benitez has told Valencia they are guilty of an illegal approach for Milan Baros if their claim to have had talks with Liverpool striker are true.
Reds boss Benitez was reacting to Valencia president Juan Soler, who says he has opened negotiations with Baros.

"It is illegal to talk to a player with two more years of his contract to go," said Benitez.

"I prefer not to talk about these things and I need to discuss this with people at this club."

He added: "But the situation is that he is our player and has two more years of his contract with this club still to go.

"I am not worried about Baros. If what their president has said is true maybe it is time to ask them about the situation

I don't like to see baros leave but if he does which he probably will do i would go for vicente because we have xabi, didi and gerrard already so there would be no real point in going for baraja but hamanns contract runs out at the end of the season and we need a replacement.

Would be surprised if we got shut of Baros because hes an excellent player. His all action style is unique and he is always a menace to any defence. If we can get one in thats better then by all means, but I cant think of one in the market we work in. If Baros is looking for a move then it will happen, aside from that only a great cash or plus players offers could tempt Liverpool to part with him right now.
