Baros to lyon - Wtf

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby kazza » Sun Jan 21, 2007 11:46 am

I heard Sky saying Baros will leave Aston Villa to go to Lyon. This might not deserve a topic but it p1sses me off as we accepted less money for him to go to Aston Villa even though Lyon offered us about two million more. Baros said he did not want Lyon as he did not want to play for Houllier and we honoured his wishes. Now a year and a half later he is about to go to the team he turned down.

I do not know about the contract, but do we get anything above what we sold him for, or does Aston Villa enjoy the profit from the sale? What a w@nker!  :veryangry

there may be a sell on fee involved kazza, and there is no harm in this beiang a topic as it does affect us.

sometimes its agreed that if a player moves on the previous club recieves a cut, especially if the player was sold cheaply in the first place

I've read enough books and fanzines over the last couple of years on Liverpool to suggest that the relationship between Houllier and Baros is very frosty.  In fact, I've read somewhere that Baros hates Houllier so this move is quite surprising.

I liked Baros for us, I really did.  He is a player with good qualities but obviously he was just not in Rafa's plans.

I'd be surprised if Baros went to Lyon. I'm quite shocked that Houllier would like to sign Baros when he could sign Diouf. :p

I don't really like his style play, running nearly always with his head down, as at times he seemed very selfish but he scored goals for the team and seemed an alright person.

There have been strong suggestions that he didn't have an extremely warm relationship with the manager but so long as you do what you are supposed to on the pitch it doesn't really matter.

From his point of view he may have felt he had something to prove by going to Aston Villa instead of Lyon but now he has the chance to move to very domestically successful club that over the past few years have improved in Europe. He will be playing European football and they will more than likely get past Roma with relative ease. So you can't blame the man for wanting to move from Aston Villa. Just like when he left us I wish him only luck in the rest of his playing career (apart from then he comes up against us that is  :;): )

What would he have to prove at Aston Villa? The result is we lost 2 million pounds (the difference between what Aston Villa paid and Lyon offered). Now he is going there anyway.

Hmm. Sometimes we gotta think on the player's part eh? We can't look at him as a puppet or machine for the club but we must think of his own personal interests as well.

Obviously it aint exactly a bed of roses for him at Villa, if it was he wouldn't be thinking of leaving. So he did refuse to move to Lyon at our expense 2 years back. At the point obviously Villa seemed like a better choice to him. Perhaps he didn't want to play for Houllier again, who as we remember, persisted in fielding Owen and Heskey in his time.

Fast forward to now he aint setting the league on fire in a mid-table club so if you were him, you would probably think hell, why not play for a Champions League club instead?

He was once a red (and a decent one) and thus I feel for him... to the extent that I felt sorry for him that a supposed move to Chelsea (straight swap with SWP) was blocked by the Chelsea hierarchy. That could have put his career back on track. Even though it meant him playing for one of our greatest rivals, I don't believe in the fan's mentality that we shouldn't wish an ex-player well just because it is not in our interests.

In fact, perhaps most of us in here, as passionate about LFC as we might be, wouldn't mind playing for Chelsea and getting paid 50k per week if we were up to it.

Baros must regret not going to Lyon in the first place but I understand if he didnt trust Houllier.  Baros isnt the top striker which Lyon need but they got so many injuries and there isnt much avaliable who can play in the Champions League.

I wish Baros well, of course!!

It is correct that he was not in Rafa's plans and he chose to sell him....so if LFC have lost any money it's down to Rafa.

Baros is obviously cutting his losses and hoping a move to Lyon will rejuvinate his career.
I think he is a decent guy and am sorry that it didn't work out for him at Villa. (Those misses at the w/e were painful to watch, but the lad does try.)

So all the best Baros...your heart is in the right place....and I hope you will regain the confidence you need to prove your critics wrong.

Baros ran himself into the ground for us, played up front on his own for over half a season when Cisse had his broken leg and I wish him well for the future.
