It struck me whilst watching Euro 2004. How proud I am at being a Liverpool supporter is. Here we have a player the world over is watching - namely Milan Baros, who we at LFC pretty much bought for peanuts, scoring for fun and proving to everyone what a sensatinal player he really is.
people often say that players are only proven if they prove it on the 'big' stage, considering that the Euro Championships is one of the 'biggest' tournaments on the international stage, it has done Baros' reputation plenty of favours.
This kids enthuasiasm and sheer brilliance for the art of scoring goals is quite simply a breath of fresh air.
Every one of his goals at Euro 2004 have been simply sensational. If he scores in the next round, he will equal a record set by the great Michel Platini, of scoring in 5 consecutive Euro Champs matches - set in 1984.
Forget all the hype around Rooney, Gerrard, Owen, Beckham and co. This kid has proven time and time again at the highest level (21 goals in 29 Internationals) that he truly is the 'real deal'.
I am sure I echo the voice of all LFC fans, when I say we are so lucky to have this lad on our books, and hope Rafa uses this boy to his full potential, to which houllier so obviously didn't, preferring Heskey. This also begs the question, Is it proving to difficult to find the perfect playing partner for Owen?
So lets look positively into the future, Cisse arriving, Baros proving to be the real gem that we all knew he was, new manager.
I will leave with this thought, With tournaments like this enhancing or devaluing a players value, how much would Baros be worth after Euro 2004?? Bidding to start at 20 million?? (LFC balance sheet will look pretty good as well as a result!!)
As an LFC supporter, and as long as the Czechs are still in this tournament, I for one have not given up watching my 'adopted team' with pride.
Baros, we at LFC salute you!!
This also to me begs the question, Is it proving to difficult to find the perfect playing partner for Owen?
