Auxerre midfielder - Cisse urges liverpool to buy

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

From Sky Sports.......

Djibril Cisse has urged Liverpool to move for his former Auxerre team-mate Teemu Tainio.
The pair spent several seasons together at Stade Abbe-Deschamps before Cisse linked up with Liverpool during the summer.

Finland international Tainio is likely to follow Cisse out of the Auxerre exit door, either during January's transfer window or at the end of the season.

The midfielder's contract expires next summer and he has previously been linked with fellow Premiership sides Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers.

But livewire striker Cisse feels Tainio could benefit from a switch to Anfield, with the 24-year-old expected to head across The Channel.

"Teemu will probably leave Auxerre after this season and make the big step forward," said Cisse.

"I think the English Premiership would be the best choice for him. Why not Liverpool?"

In response to his old colleague's comments, Tainio joked: "Cisse is just missing my passing!"

do we really need a midfielder?

we already have enough depth there, i mean even w/o gerrard we r still flourishing in our midfield as our strikers havent been striking and it's been left up to our midfielders who are doing an exceptional job, but why not use that money to buy mista and possibly a solid defensive player.

All the same, I've seen Tiano play a fair bit, and he's a handy player.

Real battler in midfield, and can pass a ball as well. Gave Viera a match in a CL game a few years ago.

He's Finnish and maybe Sammi would take him under his wing.

Not in that order though surely  ???  Alonso and gerrard for sure.

Anyway, he cant be worse than Diao but I'd rather see youngsters like Welsh and Potter coming through rather than signing new ones.

Another French-based player will mean another "adjustment" period.

By the time he gets his act together to be able to pass and set-up Cisse to score freely agains, we'd be far behind after having to get a new player from a mickey mouse league to adapt yet again...

I don't mean any disrespect for French based players but their league is a mickey mouse one and they will find adapting to the rough and tumble of the Premiership a bit too much, similar to Cisse.

We don't need another midfielder who he is familiar with if he keeps getting tackled on the ball so cheaply. No, we need a striker who can hold up the ball and who has skills to let them (Cisse or Baros) play off him, create chances for them and support them. If they still fail to score after we get this kind of striker, then both of them should be hung!

While I agree it would take time to adjust I still doubt he could be any worse than Diao, and the french league gets a lot of unfair critiscm, do you actually watch it?  Its a good league to watch even if it mightn't be the most highprofile or lucrative in the world.  Dont forget Zidane and Henry and trezeguet and all the other french stars started there.

Starbridge, those French stars you said did start at the French league, but it was after they moved on to other tougher and bigger leagues that they flourished. Zidane was an exception, as he started to show his flourish at Bordeaux before he joined Juve. But then, how many Zidanes has France produced?

Biscan to my mind is not good enough, he is adequate in a lot of things but exceptional in none.

Look at Gerrard, Hamman and the others; they all have at least one (In SG'd case many) exceptional qualities which set them apart.

As for Diao, he strives to be average at breathing. But a run in the side may provoke improvement?!.
