Nah...look at it again, if you can. He was trying to be Ronaldo. Trying for a smartarse shot and failed spectacularly. He walked away looking to the heaven's. He knew he'd fücked up big time.

The godsh!te.

I cant get to grips with this trend of  calling our players (or manager) names? wtf gives you the right to call Keane a gobsh!te? He made a mistake - fair enough. Even Ian Rush  missed a sitter or 2, Owen missed a couple and so did robbie Fowler. back off a bit - there's no need.

I have to agree. For me, I think it would be harsh to say that Robbie was completely just trying to show off, the cross was coming in behind him, if he had taken the touch defender woul've been all over him, and there wasn't really any other way to take the shot except for a spectacular scissor or a diving header, and really, they both pose just as much difficulty in completing them

Be honest, it was completely unnecessary and it cost us the game. He will have learnt his lesson I´m sure.

I thought Keane could have done a lot better with the cross.  He was in the right position to meet it but just whiffed on it.  I'm not convinced he was trying to pull off the spectacular, though, and I'm fairly certain it doesn't make him a gobsh!te.

There was definitely contact but he seemed to go down a bit too easily and obviously p!ssed the ref off in the process.  A bit more subtlety is required with those--try and stay on your feet and stumble a bit...that's often enough to signal that you were impeded but that you're not prepared simply to go to ground in a heap.  Refs will be more sympathetic in those situations, IMO.

On the reffing in general, it was poor but at least it was fair and consistent.  Two perfectly good goals chalked off for dodgy offside calls.  Two players kicked in the box followed by two cards for diving! :D

That blind git Andy Gray got it all wrong again, claiming that Robbie and Yossi were well off side - :censored:
on my sky plus i froze the image just as the ball was played 4ward and both were ONside. But in say that we should have had them buried out of sight by half time.

Riera was deffo caught on the ankle, but it was hard to see without the benefits of tv replays. The one thing that makes me proud is the fact that Manure, Chelski and Arseholenal  players always argue with the ref when anyone scores against them, but the 'Pool just get on with it

None of them finished last night's 1-1 Champions League draw at Atletico Madrid, with striker Keane and midfielder Alonso both struggling with knocks, and captain Gerrard suffering from fatigue.

It will not be known until later today how serious the problems are but Benitez is keeping his fingers crossed there is nothing too serious to worry about.

"The three players have had some problems,'' said Benitez, whose side are locked at the top of the Barclays Premier League with Chelsea on 20 points.

"It was a little bit of a muscle problem for Robbie. Gerrard is okay. He was really tired and Alonso has a knock on his knee.''

Keane, who had given Liverpool a 14th-minute lead at the Vicente Calderon before Simao Sabrosa earned Atletico a point with a late equaliser, was the first to be taken off when he was replaced by Dirk Kuyt just after half-time.

"We need to check with Keane. I don't think it will be serious, but anyway we need to take care of him. He will see the doctor,'' Benitez said.

"We are trying to keep players with fresh legs and 100% fit, so we were trying to protect all of them.''

When asked if he had any fitness concerns for the clash with Chelsea, Benitez answered: "I don't know now, we will have to wait for tomorrow.''

Gerrard was the next to make way, being replaced by Ryan Babel in the 61st minute, before Alonso left the action with 15 minutes to go, Lucas taking his place.

Eight minutes after Alonso's departure, Atletico managed to equalise, but when asked if the change had played a part in the goal, Benitez insisted he had no choice but to replace the Spain international.

"I explained the reason already, he was injured and he was asking for the substitution,'' he said.

Liverpool were without the services of star striker Fernando Torres for the match, with the former Atletico hero remaining in England to continue his recovery from a hamstring injury.

Benitez admits things might have turned out differently if the prolific forward had played, but preferred not to dwell on the subject.

"Obviously he's a special player and it could have been a different match. But he was unavailable so it doesn't matter. He couldn't play,'' he said.

Liverpool had been good value for their half-time lead at the Vicente Calderon after limiting Atletico to just a couple of half-chances in the opening period.

However, the Rojiblancos looked a much better side after the break following the arrival of star striker Sergio Aguero, who had started the game on the bench due to concerns about his fitness.

Liverpool goalkeeper Jose Reina admitted the young Argentinian helped turn the game around for the Spanish side.

"He is a tricky player who you notice when he is on the pitch because he causes a lot of problems and is difficult to stop,'' said Reina.

"What is really important now is to get to 10 points and not slip up at home.''

Wednesday's result leaves Atletico and Liverpool locked at the top of Group D with seven points from their opening three games, with the pair meeting again at Anfield on November 4.

I just don't get it that a professional footballer would be suffering from fatigue from playing maybe 2 matches a week with a couple of hours training thrown in-  well colour me happy. I work 50 hrs a week hard bloody graft and no sympathy from anyone about fatigue.

bizzarre that we seemed to lose shape after the subs, and that we seemed to be hanging onto the game, when in the first half we were so authoritative!!

nonetheless, a good point and i think we wouldve taken that before the game.

finally, benayoun - wtf was he doing half the time - headless chicken running? :D

I'll call him a gobsh1te if I wish.

What he did was stupid...nothing less than.

He's a guy looking for goals at the moment and gets a wonderful pass from Gerrard and a chance to knock one in and he tries to be fancy for no reason.

The goal would have been cheered no harder if he had suceeded with his showboating move.

In the end, it went a hell of a long way to making the result a draw and not a win.

I like my fellow Irishman, always have, but that was just a dumb and un-necessary move last night.

2 goals up in the first half. AM would have found it very hard to come back from that.

Looking at his face after he missed, I'd say he was calling himself a gobsh1te too.

Your correct. The footballers of old look at these pamper poodles today and scoff.

Souness and John Giles were talking about this a while ago and were laughing at the situation that a multi-millionare footballer today is "tired" and needs "resting" after a few matches, when in their day, they played week in week out with a rare rest on the bench.

:D

They did say though that some squads are huge today in comparason to when they were around.

I have to laught at this "resting" business myself sometimes.

it's not just that though. It seems to be a trend lately of calling members of our team names. someone called Rafa a cnt, someone called Kuyt a usless wnkr, now someone calls Keane a gobsh!te cos he missed a scoring chance?? whats the world coming to Judge? this is our own team members  ffs.

and tonyeh, Keane is a member of the football team I support and I'll stick up for him just like I would if a evertonian or a manc fan started slating him - look after your own.

lets stop calling the players names - it's cr@p.
