ARSENAL VS LIVERPOOL

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Thats exactly what I'm saying, he might not be as young as other defenders, but he's still one of our main men. He's on form at the moment, why take away someone that's essential for us, especially against a side like Arsenal?

I don't think he's as slow as people say though! He's always there when you need him, if he was that slow he wouldn't be there...

ah,but why use him against henry he will be walked on,and arsenal will use quick moving football through the centre, not high balls into the box that hyypia would be comfortable with...he was the cause of the first goal against united, slow to react to scholes's run

I agree with you.  Hypia may have lost some pace, but he was slow to start with and he has always made up for that in the air and positioning.  He is almost never at fault and its easy to undervalue what he does for the team because most of the work that he does is getting the right spot so a diving challenge often is not needed.

Hypia is slow, but he has always coped and I dont see any reason why we should not go with our best combination.

How come no ones ever complained about "slow Hyypia" before?

Ah but they have.

Hyypia is slower than a Dislexia Foundation Spelling Bee.

Mentally, though, he's like greased lightening, and can anticipate better than 99% of players.

Hyypia is slow as a shitting mongoose. However he is intelligent, he just needs to sort his passing out and quit the long balls. 1-0 to the Liverpool, Luis Garcia will dance to trance through the Arsenal back four and smash the ball into the net and run off in front of the Arsenal swearing at them whilst sucking his thumb.

The End! :)

Hyypia has been Liverpools best player so far this season IMO slow or not he has been solid the last few games.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

The fact is he has never been fast and as he gets older he is getting slower. The reason no one ever noticed before is under Houllier we made great success out of playing the counter-attack, our back line was very deep and we relied on the pace of players like Owen and Heskey to create chances on the break.

Now Benitez has introduced a more fluid means of playing, utilising the midfield so much more than we ever did, the new tactic calls for a more aggressive back line which in turn exposes both the space behind and the pace of players like Hyypia.

Don't get me wrong Hyypia still has a role to play but it is an ever decreasing one because as time moves on his ability to keep up with the pace of the game diminishes.

Why is everyone going with Reina instead of Dudek in goal. I thought Dudek was superb against Brimingham, far more confident than I have seen from Reina all season, plus he seems capable of catching the ball instead of just boxing it back to the opposition all the time like Reina !

Come on its time to give the hero of Istanbul a run in the team.

Other than that I would go with:

Dudek
Finnan, Paletta, Agger, Riise
Garcia, Gerrard, Alonso, Gonzales
Kuyt, Crouch

With this team I think we would have a damned good chance but we must attack and not play passive.

Paletta to start instead of JC and Hyppia?

I do see your point with Dudek but i think this is too big a game to try and bring Dudek back in, especially when he has only played one game in recent weeks.
