todays line up

French youngster Damien Plessis is in the starting line-up to face Arsenal at the Emirates.
The defensive midfielder is one of eight changes made by Rafa Benitez from Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final first leg.

The Reds line up in a 4-1-4-1 formation for the 12.45pm kick off.

Here's the XI in full: Reina, Arbeloa, Finnan, Skrtel, Carragher, Riise, Pennant, Benayoun, Lucas, Plessis, Crouch. Subs: Itandje, Hyypia, Gerrard, Torres, Voronin.

Well it looks like Benitez is happy to sacrifice this one.

I’m surprised that Plessis is making his debut. But he is one of the better players in the reserves. I’ve seen him play a couple of games and he looks a decent defensive midfielder who is comfortable on the ball and releases the ball quickly first time or after one or two touches.

I'm pleased Rafa has kept a consistent formation but I can't see us controlling the midfield with that line-up.  Let's hope the lads play a nice physical game and keep Arsenal out of their rhythm and let's hope Pennant and Crouch can cause them some problems going forward.

That's a strange looking team.  Hope Rafa knows what he's doing.

It looks a bit lightweight, midfield onwards.

Oh well, we no his priorities. Even earlier in the league season it was clear he prioritised the CL over the Prem.

I would of liked a stronger team, if Arsenal win comfortably this may bgive them a mental edge coming to Anfield.

Its almost defeatism to me. :(

This is another thing I dont understand, Torres and Gerrard are on the bench, what are they supposed to do come on in the 70th minute if were 3-0 down and salvage something ?

Why doesnt he start Gerrard and then bring him off after 55 mins, this way we may have more chance of notching up a lead and then defending it, rather than the likely one of salvaging something. Granted I wouldnt of played Torres he looked knackered, but maybe Babel instead.

Whats the gooners line-up ?
