Antonio nunez - Give him a break

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Don't get me wrong I don't think he's mint of anything but I think the lad deserves a full season before everyone jumps on his back, he joined the club and got injured in the first training session and didn't play for about 4 months, he came to a new club and country so needs to settle in, you can see from his body language that his confidence was low but at times I think he showed some good signs, I reckon that he might have a better season in 05/06, if he doesn't start to prove himself then fair enough but I say give the lad a chance rather than ribbin him like most people do on here

I agree he had a good game aginst the bitters and Juve at home, give him this season to prove himself, his confidence is shot to pieces, the lad looks a nervous wreck.
Lay off him its not his fault he got sent here in the Owen deal he was forced.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

The feeling here is that despite the fact the lad is obviously low on confidence, the main problem is one of quality. I know he wouldn't be the first foreign player to not show in his first season and then come good but truly, if Nunez was to become a player it would be an unparalelled revelation. Other than a rather uncanny ability in the air which is most unusual for a wide man, he has IMHO shown next to nothing sofar and I would go as far as saying that if the Celta Vigo interest solidifies into a concrete bid of anything over 500k I would think it a must sell. If not, then support him by all means.

Nunez will (hopefully) end up being one of the clubs favourites, I'm sure.

I know he's far from the finished article, but yes, Mick is right, he's very good in the air and he has an excellent cross on him.  He'd cause danger with a bit more confidence.

I have a feeling he won't last the summer and the first decent offer for him from La Liga will see him return home.

Just found this form sky sports
VIGO EYE NUNEZ SWOOP
SKY Sports 08 July 2005

Antonio Nunez's Liverpool adventure could be over after just a year at Anfield.

The Spanish winger arrived on Merseyside last summer as part of the deal that saw Michael Owen join Real Madrid.

Nunez had a troubled start to his Liverpool career as he picked up a knee injury in one of his first training sessions since leaving Madrid.

Nunez made 27 appearances for The Reds, scoring just the one goal in the Carling Cup final defeat to Chelsea.

Although his form improved in the second half of the season, Nunez still failed to convince Liverpool fans and Rafa Benitez could well decide to offload him in his big summer shake-up.

Spanish side Celta Vigo are interested in taking the winger back to Spain after just a year in The Premiership.

Benitez is determined to get an improved Premiership showing from his European champions, and Nunez could be one of the names to make way.

Nunez only played a limited part last season and with more new faces set to arrive at Anfield, he could be deemed surplus to requirements.

Any was IMO Nunez looked a better player after the Carling Cup Final, he started getting decent crosses in and got into some good positions. Give him a chance.

It's all the rage these days to say that if a player didn't have "a proper pre-season" he's at a disadvantage, fitness-wise, all season.  If there's any truth in that, I'm sure Nunez is better than we saw last season.  I think he might enjoy a fresh start if he goes to Spain.  I hope it goes well for him next season whatever happens.

I also think that Nunez might prove to be good this season but with the imminent arrival of former FIFA footballer of the year, Luis Figo, his chances would be limited.

If we get a good offer from Celta Vigo, we should let him go.

pretty limited player but at least he tried. i think the less physical side of la liga is more suited to his game and if we get an offer, yeah we should let him go.

Nunez, pelle, and Josemi were all very dissaointing last season.  Pelle is gone and the jury is out on the other 2.  If theymanage to stay over the summer, i expect to see them improve greatly or get sold in Januarary.

Well doesnt look like he is going anywere so i dont doubt he will get his chance to shine. I think he may prove us wrong and be a decent bk up to King Luis until then he is just there cos owen left.

I think Kewell might pull his finger out this season as well

I must say, the loyalty and compassion shown is admirable lads. but lets not kid ourselves, the boy's a f*ckin liability. i cringe when i see him come off the bench - he is NOT the type of player that will take liverpool back to the top of the table...i would even go as far as saying he's an embarassment.

Apologies if this isnt what u want to hear but thats my opinion....
