Another joke? - Shearer linked with anfield move

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Shaun Wright-Phillips or Alan Shearer could be top of Rafael Benitez's shopping list should Michael Owen seal his shock move to Real Madrid.

The Spaniard will have to move quickly in the transfer market to quell disquiet among the fans at any departure of local lad Owen and will look to bring in a big name immediately.

Wright-Phillips has already been linked with a move to Anfield this pre-season and Liverpool would see the exciting 22-year-old as an excellent investment.

Manchester City have already issued a 'hands-off' warning to other clubs but Liverpool would carry considerably more financial clout with any money from an Owen deal.

City are also in the midst of a severe cash crisis at the moment and could be forced to reluctantly cash in on their star.

Shearer meanwhile, who has been rumoured to be a target for the Reds in the past, could be a short-term solution.

The player is reported to be concerned at his prospects for the new season given the summer arrival of Patrick Kluivert from Barcelona, with Craig Bellamy also desperate for a first-team spot.

Shearer would be the ideal striker for either £14m Anfield arrival Djibril Cisse or Euro 2004 star Milan Baros to play off, and Shearer may be tempted by one last move in his career.

Shaun Wright-Phillips is a good player we would do well to buy him now , by the end of next year his price will be sky high
