Anfield exit

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby A.B. » Sun May 15, 2005 7:25 pm

EL-HADJ DIOUF will walk into an Anfield void when he returns this summer from Bolton.
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez, while desperate to add striking power to the squad that takes on Villa today, has declared him persona non grata.

But he will not loan out the Senegalese striker again - and the only escape will be if interested clubs are prepared to pay around ??5million.

Bolton boss Sam Allardyce wants to sign Diouf permanently but Birmingham and Villa are also preparing bids. And both will have more cash to spend in the summer than Big Sam.

Diouf will not be the only one to find himself heading for the Anfield exit door - Harry Kewell, Milan Baros, Josemi, Neil Mellor and Jerzy Dudek are also likely to be going.

Baros and Dudek are poised to start next week's Champions League final but Benitez plans a big clear-out.

He said: "I have worked hard on how my players approach games - especially away games in the Premiership where they have made me very disappointed. In the end, if you cannot change the mentality, you change the player."

Well not hardly surprised by who might be going. Though I was prepared to give Josemi some time to adapt but it seems that the only thing he's helped us with is Finnan, when Rafa bought Josemi that gave Finnan a kick up his ar$e and ever since he's been solid.

good to see we might get some money back off Doofus, especially if we can get 2 or 3 clubs bidding for him.

Add Diarra to that list, I don't think he'll be here especially when he doesn't want to be with us.

I would like Dudek to stay, but I realise that we need someone more solid between our posts. :( Hope he'll go to some good club :)

This is what I think:

Dudek or Kikland, most likely Dudek
Baros
Kewell, most likely
Smicer, gone
Pellegrino, only bought in as a short term replacement for Henchoz
Le Tallec, loan or sold
Diao, maybe have to settle for loan
Partridge, gone
Otsemober, gone
Vignal, gone
Cheyrou, may have to settle for loan
Diouf, should get some decent money

Diarra, not sure, anything could happen, but I think he will be sold
Mellor, not sure, would like him to stay and provide back up for 1 more season
Warnock, more likely to stay
Traore, not sure, prefer him to leave
Biscan, not sure, prefer to give an extension as a backup player

I think Hamann, Josemi and Nunez will stay.

Who is gonna pay Kewell £60,000 per week?  I think we're stuck with him...

Disagree, there's always teams out there who need players. Kewell has been linked with a couple of clubs

There are probably clubs who will offer him 30-40k, but I can see him rejecting them and sitting on the bench picking up his fat wages until his contract runs out...

Athletic Madrid's manager is a fan of Kewell and he's looking for a winger for his side. Kewell would do well in Spain as it's less physical.

I thought I read somewhere that he can't settle, and can't speak a work of English.

I think he may go, but I hope he stays

I still would like to see Kewell stay...he's played a whole lot better since returning and i think he's going to be back in form next season.  Think Biscan, desipte his recent form, is off on a free.
