Andy  vandermeyde or another right winger? - Whats  the peoples choice?

The Figo deal is back in talks i think. I doubt Real Madrid is gonna play him that much this season, and Rafa has not ruled out a deal. But either way I think Rafa would cash in Baros and get a new CB first. He should have realized that Hyypia cant do the job anymore.

Van de Mayde is style without substance. i.e another Gronkaer.

Castellan is the man.  He should of been another one of Ian Wrights' adopted sons, he's THAT similar to SWP.

Plays for feyenoord and has been recently (like SWP) been drafted into the national team. .

andy vandermeyde has great pace and can provide briliant crosses for crouch and cisse!

may be the peeps have other players in mind?

alves?     cicinho?    renato?  galletti?  etc. etc :buttrock

van der mayda has been a total flop in italy, what makes you think he will be good for us.

My choice if Figo is a no-no would be Owen Hargreaves. He would also provide cover for other positions. I don't necessarily go for this theory that we should have a couple of blokes bombing down the wings, pinging in crosses for our strikers. Contrary to popular belief, I don't think Crouch is going to score lots of goals by attacking crosses and I think it's more important to simply provide width and shape than to be an out and out winger.
As a flyer and one thats a bit out there, sooner or later somebody will realise that Glen Johnson will never make a right full-back while he has a hole in his jacksy and that in actual fact, he's a right sided midfielder being played out of position. At about 2.5 million I'd take a punt on himk being quite a good one too.

I too like Hargrieves, but he needs a fair bit of improvement. He makes good decisions, but half of the time, his final touch lets him down. But I like the idea of having another player just in case that can cover all of Midfield.

two wide men is rafas way!

r u gonna argue with his tryed tested method of 4-5-1 with two wingers

i.e. vicente and rufete at valencia two chapionship medals also to prove he`s

right! :buttrock  :buttrock  :buttrock

I have the same problem with FSP as I do with Zenden or Garcia when he plays wide as one of a four. In modern football you have to work the line. Would Zenden cope defensively with say a Ljundberg? or Garcia with a Giggs? or Pongolle with a Robben or a Duff?
Before anybody poo-poohs the notion, you can bet your butt that all of the mentioned players will work their socks off to regain posession when we come forward. It's part of the game these days which is why strong, hardworking players like Riise can survive playing wide. Like Hargreaves he may not be the most gifted but he will work the line. I've seen nothing from FSP (and I'm not suggesting he's not a talented footballer by any means) to suggest he would.
All this conjecture of course ignores the fact that we are ALREADY in posession of the best right-sided midfielder in the Prem. Steven Gerrard.

i've been saying this for ages but resisted lately from fear of being lynched from the "why move him from midfield" brigade.

same people mind who said Carra is better at left back than right back only to see rafa shift him into the centre.

gerrard is going to be used as an offencive half, attacking midfielder more surging

runs and goal threat!

like aimar at valencia he would be wasted out on the wing, that is why  rafa is  still in

the hunt 4 a right sided midfielder or winger! :buttrock

ok, there is a russian lad Marat Izmailov. plays for one of the Moscow clubs.  Is extremely quick and skillful but prone to the odd hamstring injury (as most pacey players tend to)

We need someone who is reliable. We can do without another Kewell scenareo. I believe that this shows that just buying from England isn't always a good thing. Rafa will no doubt have 4 or 5 wingers to look at. I trust him!
