more like if only we got it right more often...

We've had great results this season, playing some great stuff, all credit where credit is due.... but its only fair to also point out that we've made quite a mess of things at some stage and it has cost us...

But its also fair to say it is a steep curve to go fromn being 4th to winning the whole thing and its bloody damn hard to do it in one season and is something that needs to be built up too - yeah we could of got better results from those earlier games where we just lacked a cutting edge but we could of also easily of lost points later on as well .

Its a learning curve and one we are going in the right direction and the players have now got a taste of what it is like to challenge for the first time in maybe 8 years maybe longer . I think we are where everyone hoped we would be - being in with a shout with 2 games to play -

A couple more tweaks a couple of extra quality signings and with the experience gained should give us an outstadnding chance of doing it next season no matter what the other teams do - we know we can lead the prem , we now know we can beat those top guys . The team did what they thought was best every single game and hopefully they will all learn and apply it for next season - players and managers .

We could be on the edge of something and thats through the work of the players and managers . It is going to be a good time to be a liverpool fan and i for one am excited about the future and can feel those years in the 80s where i was running around claiming liverpool title winners coming back again .

Get rid of a few deadwood - Pennant (going anyway ),Voronin, El Zhar,Maybe Babel and Dossena (only bring in Barry if its for the same money for what we sell lucas for)bring in a couple of high quality signings and go for it .

Although i'm extremely pessimistic of lifting the trophy this season, imagine this -

Man Utd turn over Wigan as expected and seal a 6 point lead.

3 days later Arsenal finally save some face and beat Man Utd. The lead is now only 3 points and Utds final game is against Hull who need nothing but a win to stay up.

Psychologically playing the final game knowing you cannot lose, even against a team like Hull, surely carries some optimism...

The thing is Ace we havent changed the way we play since Rafa has got here all that much - we have been a little bit less cagey at times but most of our good play has come down to more self belief ,better quality players and confidence - the actual structure and basics that rafa employs is the same every season - the results get better because we get better players . We rotate close to what we pretty much have always down (same as others and less than others ) , we attack the same way , we defend the same way and the work rate is just the same as ever . The managers thinking and tactics havent changed that much at all maybe bar a little tweak but the ideas are the still the same -options, possibilities for change, adaptable squad. Just miss that extra little bit of creativity to produce something out of nothing or to unlock a tight defence.

as i put in my first post

we lived a season  thats full.
we traveled each and evry highway;
And more, much more than this,
we did it Rafa’s  way.

and thats been the problem , yet again he has left us fans thinking he dont have a clue what he is doing.....but them in other games he gets is so spot on we make the other teams look silly.

And Rafas way has us finally really going for the title up to the last two games of the season - something we never ever achieved under Souness,GH or Evans and last saw nearly 18 years ago.

It's a pity though that the really good attacking football has only come at the end of the season.

Too little, too late.

But that attacking football left us very exposed and the top teams took advantage of that - ie chelsea and arsenal . need a good balance .and we havent played against teams that park the bus , teams have let us attack
