Alonso in advanced talks...

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Penguins » Sun Jun 03, 2007 1:21 pm

Barcelona are closing in on Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso.
DiarioSport says negotiations between Barca and Liverpool are at an advanced stage for Xabi, whose Dad is a former Nou Camp star.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is resigned to losing Xabi, who has baulked at agreeing terms over a new contract extension at Anfield.

Ok, ok. it might just be a rumor. Still sounds bad to me if Xabi don't want to extend his contract.

These are the men that appear in the SPORT diari website. A Barcelona a la French, they say. Those are the main targets.

This is the super article about Alonso:

El Barsa hace meses que busca con insistencia el medio centro que dé más consistencia al centro del campo azulgrana. Muchos son los nombres que se han barajado, pero al final quien tiene más posibilidades de ocupar esa demarcación es Xabi Alonso, el donostiarra que milita actualmente en el Liverpool. Nos comentan que las negociaciones están muy avanzadas y que el técnico, Benítez, incluso ya lo da por perdido.

Hear, hear:

"Barsa is insistently seeking the player who'll give consistency to Barcelona midfield. Many have been the names that have been shuffled, but eventually, *the name that has more possibilities* is Xabi Alonso, The Donostiarra (born in San Sebastian) who plays for Liverpool Football Club- They comment us (inpersonal use of the Spanish to say you don't specify the source, could be the barman, could be the grandmother) that talks are very advanced, and that even Rafa has given up the hopes of keeping him.

*cough*

Rumour mill material, if you ask me.

That's the page I got, but couldn't understand what it said. Cheers for the translation Sabre. Is this site usually reliable or not?

Oh because that thread was a funny joke not a warning about advanced talks to Xabi leave the club.  :lookaround

I agree lio. Too much rumour mill material in the Liverpool Football Club general discussion section.

Ya, of course I worry.
The more rumors I read about a player leaving or a player being interested in leaving the more I worry.
