I think football players are intentionally breaking their metatarsals because it's fashionable, like wearing beads around the wrist.

Manhattan wants to jump on this bandwagon. I am going to break my metatarsal right now.

I'll be back later, after the deed is done.

Murphy0151 is wandering how long he can be off work with this injury.

Leonmc0708 is pretty surethat Murphy0151 could get a fortnight out of it easy.

It’s clearly the footwear the players are using today; most players go for style over substance and sensibility.

yup... strange isn't it? is it really a matter of footwear?

or are journalists simply becoming more sophisticated and hence use technical terms more?

Personally, blaming footwear alone is a bit ignorant. I think it's a combination of things. I think it's an increase in games played, the intensity of training sessions, and the long seasons that cause stress fractures in this particular area for players.

If you look at the list of players with these injuries, the vast majority have occurred to players who play at top clubs. Top clubs whose demands are increased year by year on the pitch.

And it seems to happening to mostly players in England. I think certain clubs should take a page out of Milan's book. Who have created the ''Milan Lab''.

"Milan Lab is the High Tech Scientific Research Centre set up by AC Milan with strong motivation, operating since July 2002. The club’s purpose is to optimise the psycho-physical management of the athletes by entrusting this task to MilanLab which represents the ideal combination of science, technology, IT, cybernetics and psychology."

It explains to why the likes of Cafu,Maldini,Inzaghi,etc.. have played for such a long time and still look in great physical condition. Their latest product, Ronaldo. He's lost great amount of weight and his physical condition is better than it ever has been before in recent years.

Liverpool and Adidas are at loggerheads about the boots.

Gerrards metertardsa was in predator blades also.

Aarons got these two footie boots and they are light as a feather the new red addidas one's weigh absolutly nothing, the preditor are a bit heavier though.

Rooney is getting his specially made now since he's had this injury twice.

It has to be the boots this injury was never heard of before.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

Right, of all the players at Liverpool, who do you think would buy a Spanish restaurant? Alonso? Benitez? Reina? No. Daniel Agger. Just read in the times that he is keeping busy while injured having just bought Que Pasa. Perhaps Alonso will open a shop that speciallizes in bacon and pastries? Oh well, good luck to him.

I dont think so mate, a very large proportion of metertarsals broken is due to the new featherweight boot, simple really. There really isnt that much to read into it.

I agree AB, except I won't say whoever says it's the footwear is ignorant, I just doubt it's the footwear.

Alonso had another metartasal toe broken in 2001 and he didn't wear adidas back then, I remember similar problems in other players of the nineties, I'm just unsure that this is more than bad luck, and matches.
