Adam hammill starts for reserves... - ...best homegrown talent for a while imo

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Adam Hammill starts for the reserves tonight in place of the injured but mightly impressive Barragan, Hammill has had a great start to the season scoring a wonder goal for the Under 18s 2 weeks ago beating 5 men, and scoring the winner for them this weekend, He also came on for the reserves last Monday (i think) and changed the game, he looks pure quality on the ball and is defo someone to look out for in the future, he not the quickest but he beats men using pure skill and technique.

To me he could be the best thing to come out the Acadamy for a long time and i have no doubt tonight he will be putting on a hell of a display again, think this kid could have a very good future along with some of the other lads,  but i know people like to see young local players coming through and he looks the best of the lot. Hope we get a proper look at him in the Carling Cup.

And for anyone else who cares a certain Harry Kewell is on the bench.

Has anyone else seen much of Adam play or is there anybody else coming through who anyone knows about who could be the next Stevie, Jamie or Michael???

Not sure how serious Barragans injury is, he picked it up in the game last week and he carried on for a bit but come off soon after, so dont think its to bad. Hammill is 18, just hope the lad doesnt let me down now and have a stinker!!

Hes right footed but is quite comfortable with both by the looks of things and from what the Liverpool Under 18s coach says he has a lot of promise about him.

Under-18 Academy manager John Owens said: “Adam is a player with a tremendous range of skill with his step overs and natural movement on the ball. He is a first year with promise and excites people with his natural ability.

He plays like Cristiano Ronaldo albeit on a different level but he can open up defences. What he does need to work on is he needs to use his skill at the right times and in the right areas. In a perfect situation the role he would play in your side would be similar to Joe Cole, as Adam has the ability to play in the hole just off the striker.

Adam Hammill has impressed for the Under 18s this year and has too good for that level, and he has been given a chance to play for the reserves and he seems to be standing out there aswell, mind you this is all based on the match reports I have read for those respective teams, so it isnt very solid.

My mate tells me that Paul Barratt is the players to look out for, playing for the under 18s and the moment, but my mate reckons he has a big future.

KEWELL RETURNS BUT RESERVES LOSE
Steve Hunter at Wrexham 27 September 2005
Harry Kewell made a successful return from injury as he came on after 62 minutes for Liverpool Reserves in their 1-0 defeat to his former club Leeds United at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground.
Kewell made his first appearance in a red shirt since the Champions League final in Istanbul on May 25th. He played just off the lone striker in a central role and came through without any problems.

The match itself was a disappointing affair as a spectacle but Liverpool certainly created enough chances to force a draw with Godwin Antwi and David Raven coming closest to finding an equaliser.

Paco Herrera and Hughie McAuley started with a back four of Zak Whitbread at left back, Miki Roque and Danny O'Donnell at centre half with captain David Raven at right back. Jack Hobbs partnered David Mannix in central midfield with Adam Hammill on the left wing and Danny Guthrie right side midfield. Austrian Besian Idrizaj played just off striker Ramon Calliste.

Liverpool started the game brightly and in the opening minute had a chance from a David Mannix searching through ball but Leeds keeper Mark Wilberforce was alert and came out to kick the ball clear just before Ramon Calliste could get there.

Besian Idrizaj then came close to his first goal in a red shirt after 10 minutes. A sweet turn gave the 17-year-old a great chance but Wilberforce made an excellent save to keep out his stinging drive.

Leeds then took the lead after 18 minutes. Paul Willis made a great save from a free-kick but was let down by his defenders and after a poor clearance, Simon Walton fired the loose ball into the net.

Willis then made a great save after 30 minutes with a fine save to deny Jonathan Howson.

Three minutes later the Reds had a great chance. Good approach play from Calliste set up Idrizaj who was blocked out before the ball came out to Adam Hammill just outside the box, but the youngster could only curl an effort over the bar.

Leeds almost added a second goal in stoppage time but Willis denied the away side again with an excellent save from Kevin Smith.

For the second half Paco Herrera and Hughie McAuley made two changes. James Smith came on at left back for Whitbread and Godwin Antwi came on for Idrizaj. Antwi is a defender but was utilised in attack to support Calliste. The Ghana born player certainly tries his best no matter what position he has to play and did well and could easily have scored a couple of goals.

Godwin's best chance came after 57 minutes. Danny Guthrie did brilliantly down the right and produced a superb cross which the diving Antwi narrowly missed the ball with an attempted diving header.

Harry Kewell then made his comeback as a replacement for Adam Hammill and had a chance straight away but could only shoot wide.

Antwi had another chance on 75 minutes but was denied by a save from Wilberforce, then the Leeds keeper made an even better save to keep out David Raven's long range shot.

Leeds almost made it 2-0 in the last minute when Howson hit a superb strike that went inches wide.

Liverpool Reserves: Willis, Raven, Whitbread (Smith 45), Roque, O'Donnell, Hobbs, Guthrie, Mannix, Calliste, Idrizaj (Antwi 45), Hammill (Kewell 62). Unused subs: Lancaster, Peltier.

Leeds United Reserves: Wilberforce, Madden, Harding, Parker, Walton, Marques, Gardner, Bayly, Smith, Howson, Pugh.

Referee: I Nolan.

Liverpoolfc.tv Man of the Match: David Raven. A solid game at right back, just edges out the excellent Miki Roque.

apparently dudek is also ahead of schedule and is being called up to the polish squad.

I have brought this thread back up due to the fact that the young lad scored...AGAIN, and he is a winger.
I mentioned previously that i had not heard about him..but he seems to be making a bit of a name for himself the last few weeks.
I hope he can keep things up.

NEWS STORY
YOUNG REDS HELP HONOUR THE HEYSEL 39
Mark Platt 13 October 2005
The 39 victims of the 1985 Heysel Stadium disaster were remembered on Wednesday afternoon when the youth teams of Liverpool and Juventus met in a poignant friendly game.
In the town of Arezzo, near Florence, the two clubs' came together, once again, to share their sorrow 20 years after the tragic events in Brussels.

On what was an emotional occasion the Italian's ran out 2-1 winners but of greater importance was the message of reconciliation, friendship and hope for the future that this meeting sent out.

The game was arranged at the request of Mr Otello Lorentini, President of the Committee Against Violence In Sport and father of one of the victims, and agreed prior to the Champions League clash between Liverpool and Juventus in April.

The Liverpool delegation left John Lennon airport early on Tuesday morning and during their two-night stay in Italy they received wonderful hospitality from their hosts.

On Tuesday they were treated to a sightseeing tour, followed by a lavish banquet, which was attended by the players and officials of both clubs, including Anfield Chief Executive Rick Parry and his Juve counterpart Roberto Bettega.

On the morning of the game a church service was held in honour of the Heysel victims, at which the players of Liverpool, who proudly wore t-shirts sporting the slogan 'memoria e amicizia' (in memory and friendship), and Juventus mingled freely.

As for the game, everyone agreed afterwards that it was a great advert for football and friendship, which was played in a tremendous spirit.

Liverpool dominated the first half and took the lead with a well-taken goal from the in-form Adam Hammill, who chipped over the keeper following good play by Godwin Antwi.

The Reds continued to control proceedings and Godwin went close to increasing the leader with a header that was superbly saved by the opposition keeper.

The half-time break provided the hosts with a chance to change their tactics and they emerged for the second half in a much more positive frame of mind. With three quarters of the game gone, and Liverpool legs tiring, Juventus levelled before going on to snatch a late
winner.

Reds coach Hughie McAuley said: "The lads acquitted themselves really well and showed great enthusiasm. We scored early and managed to stay in front for most of the match but it had been a hectic 48 hours and understandably we tired towards the end.

"Nevertheless, it was a tremendous experience for everyone. It's not often that you get an opportunity to play such a prestigious game at this level and it was a very worthwhile exercise."

The general consensus at the end was that a draw would have been a fair result but the Liverpool players were warmly applauded off the field for their tremendous efforts. Shirts were swapped with the Juventus players and both teams received a trophy and medals to commemorate their participation in this special fixture.

Mr Lorentini was clearly moved by the whole occasion and shortly after the final whistle he told Liverpoolfc.tv: "On behalf of those who organised the match we thank Liverpool Football Club for coming here and making this event come true."

Overall, Liverpool's visit was well received and much appreciated. The players proved themselves to be great ambassadors for the club, both on and off the pitch, and although the game was lost many new friends were won.

Liverpool team: Willis, Raven (capt), Roque (Nardiello), O'Donnell, Smith, Guthrie, Hobbs, Peltier, Mannix, Hammill, Godwin. Unused subs - Lancaster, Woods, Frayne.
