Maybe some of the players who have come in find it difficult playing away in the Premiership, that may be an issue of mentality, confidence and character

If you read back in this thread I already used that excuse, and indirectly so did Rafa :D

As I have again already said Rafa has spent MORE than the Mancs since he came, but they obviously had a better starting point.

The whole point is how well Rafa has done to get us to this point where we are disappointed when we dont challenge. Under Houllier the last few years it wasn't disappointing because we knew any challenge would be fleeting.

Watch it Saint, you're starting to sound realistic and circumspect :D

I agree there are loads of excuses, but there always will be. The Mancs havnt spent as much as Chelsea(excuse)Chelsea have bought a lot of players that need integrating  (excuse) Manc players were tired in the cup final(excuse) Chelsea players couldnt prepare for the game against us in the same way because we had only played 3 games all year :D ( bad excuse)

If you just accept excuses you will never challenge because things never go perfectly, refs get things wrong , injuries, unhappy players, players fall out  etc etc

The right perspective is to say we failed to challenge this year in the league and to try to put right what went wrong. Which is basically what Rafa has said, a better start and a better mental strength.

The PL is a big long grind and marathon and even though we can beat anybody in a cup game the league games are different.

Many "boring games in mid december" like City away, Villa away etc.
What truly helps in those games is the top quality players who gets you "easy wins".
Only have to perform 10 min of the whole game to carve up the defense with some neat passing, creativity, dribbling skills and vision. And voila, you're up 2-0.

So many games Ronaldo, Rooney has hit opponents on the break this season to get some easy goals and many games where Ronaldo just dribbles himself into the penalty area and makes himself tripped. Not pretty but easy goals.

Who on our team can dribble past a guy??
Not one except on very few rare occasions.
And especially in the PL where we face som many teams that park their bus in front of the goal, the counter attacks are vital. After opponents have their corners and rare attacks the opportunitity is there to exploit.

And until Rafa can spend 15 million+ on his 1st choice players,
I'm very happy with the success Rafa manages to achive for liverpool.
When maureen wants a new player he pick his 1st choice Drogba for 24 million. Fergie wants a new striker and picks his 1st choice Rooney for 30 million. Rafa wants a new striker and gets Crouch for 7 million.
No need to go on cause it's the same no matter where you look.
I'm always hopeful a title challange will be made but with the uneven playing field that has been so far I have not been expecting the title(title challenge almost the same). And to be fair we could have got alot of more useless points in the table if all energy was focused on getting around 80 pts. But why do that when the race was over long ago and the CL was there to go for?

And even though I think overrotation especially early in the season isn't good I also believe the squad just isn't good enough to win the title.
Our wingers and strikers as they are today will not bring home no. 19. Some disagree with this and some agree.

Which is exactly why we've said we have underperformed and could do better!

We are not making excuses, we are exploring SOME of the REASONS for our poor performances in the league.

You seem to think we're disagreeing with you, we're not, we're just as p!ssed off about this season's premiership performance as you are.

Now :D

I think Mr. R. Benitez needs to improve on his buying too, a lot of his buyes have proved a very average, we have a lot players who can not play at this level, we really need to buy top quality players, especially up front, since the loss of Fowler we have not had top forward and we have produce one yet, the youth system needs to look at seriously too, we have not been producing promising young quality players for long time, and that was not the case in the past.

The other thing that I am not happy about is our team display through out the whole season is down to Mr. Benitez's team selection which was found wanting, it has been a very poor season by all account, and Mr. Benitez needs to do much better, with huge improvement for next season, otherwise, we would not finish in the top six, we must improve on our away form, espacially against lower teams, otherwise, we will end up like them, a very very average side!!!
