Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Leonmc0708 » Mon Sep 29, 2008 12:28 pm

I wasnt old enough to have witnessed anything he did first hand, but books and videotape have made me realise that Bill was and still is this club's biggest influence.

RIP Shanks

I only have sketchy memories of him as a kid, but when he was talking he had an aura about him. A fantastic man by all accounts, and those who knew him were privilaged so to do. Not only did he drag the club upto greatness, he left behind a legacy of the bootroom from which other great managers were plucked. What he did for the club will never be equalled IMHO, RIP Bill Shankly.

From his Memorial Stone in Glenbuck;

Seldom in the History of Sport can a village the size of Glenbuck have produced so many who reached the pinnacle of achievement in their chosen Sport.

This Monument is dedicated to their memory, and to the memory of one man in particular, BILL SHANKLY.

Didn't experience him and his work first hand myself, but I know perfectly well what he did for this great club. One of the few persons who actually deserves to be called a LEGEND (a term which is bandied around far too often these days imo).

RIP Shanks, YNWA

I was having a discussion, which got fairly heated, a few days ago about who the greatest manager ever in the league was. I was saying Shankly and the other misguided buffoon was claiming it was Fergie.
In my opinion Shanks redefined LFC and set us up for the glory era which bar the recent barren spell in the league is still being enjoyed by all us grateful fans.

RIP Shankly  :bowdown

he laid the foundations, & made the club feared all over the world! his speech with the players all around him, will stay with me forever- "i have drummed it into my players time & time again that they are honoured to play for you people, & if they didn"t believe me then, they believe me now"

the crowd that were privaliged to be there for that went wild with delight!
words can"t describe my admiration & respect for the greatest man to manage LFC & with many great managers we have had over the years just says it all.
i"m sure many of shanks great statements will be shared on here. but another of my favourites is actually displayed in the club"s museum - "i was made for LiverpooL & LiverpooL was made for me"

                                       R. I. P. SHANKS YOUR MEMORY WILL FOREVER LIVE ON
