In a "pearls of wisdom" moment, I sneekily tried some Cherry Brandy my ma and pa had recieved from a mate that made his own spirits. Ofcourse I necked it. I regret that action to this day. I was only about 12, and the frigger was 75% proof. :(

Yea i did something stupidlike that too when i was 13..........it was with that drink, that has two liquers in one bottle, one thick and white the other black and a bit like honey in texture.
I think it was called Sheridans, if I am not mistaken! I dont care anyway what its calld, as after that experience I will neber drink it again i swear!!!

Booze lesson no.1

% proof is different to %alcohol by volume

100% proof = 58.5% alcohol by volume

therefore 75% proof = ladybooze

Education is the key to effective boozing :buttrock

Thats a very precise figure Wooly ,amazing what we learn in this forum . I always thought proof was generally double the alchohol volume i.e. 100% proof =50% alcohol volume .

a perfect example is Woods 100 Navy Rum, so called cos it's 100% proof, 58.5% abv, and utterly insane

remember when beer didn't have abv and had "original gravity" instead? anything less than 1040 was for girls, 1080 or above was strictly for "gentlemen of the road"  :bump

Woods navy rum mmmmm, Once bought a big fu'ck off stone jar of the stuff ,but now can only get it in bottles.Smelt like the xmas puddings me Gran used to make . Lovely stuff. Another top rum is Pussers   :nod .A pimpmeister should always have some of it behind the bar .

not generally a big fan of spirits apart from the occasional scotch-based bender but you've gotta admire the brute force simplicity of woods 100   :buttrock

right now i'm drinking water, last night turned into the following - 4 pints of heineken down the pub, followed by a bottle of co-op czech lager and 3 cans of carling at home

rough as buggery this morning :(  my brother in law is back lodging with us so booze carnage is the norm until further notice  :wwww

No disrespect to your "Aussie rum" mate but a real rum has to come from the caribbean .We're talking about rums with a 54-57% volume .At under 38% yer Bundaberg is for Sheilas'
